<quoted text>I don't post there but was surprised to read the change Topix made. The numbers are bad enough but being forced to watch an advertisement is too much for me.
If ever the day comes where I have to do that to post, I will say so long to topix.

I think when they lost their affiliation with the newspapers, that was a huge blow and absent good visionary leadership a downward spiral was inevitable.

I understand that they need revenue and I'm not sure what the answer is, to be honest. I could have told you, however, when they lost the newspaper affiliation that staying the same was not a viable option ... Which is what they did, for the most part.

There's no way to get new blood and most of the folks who are still here are remnants of those days ... mostly because they developed friendships with folks to varying degrees. Even with that, there still is attrition with many folks gradually dropping out over time.

What I think would be more interesting would be if they had expanded folks profile options a lot and steered the website towards a hybrid between what Facebook (false names, tho) and what they currently have, but with the news story aspect too. No gray boxes.

You can't stay the same in this industry ... You have to evolve ... You have to innovate. This industry almost more than any. None of this existed 15-20 years ago ... That shows you how fast it moves. MySpace was created 10 years ago, took off like a rocket, and then died too. You can either evolve or die. You can either innovate and be ahead of the game or languish.

There is no evolution with topix and the business model they have while perfectly good when they were affiliated with newspapers and had a captive audience, is now a non-starter. It's really only a question of when it ends, not if.

If managed right and with foresight it had potential. It already had members ... Given this, it would have been much easier to evolve topix than build something new from the ground up. Nothing much has been done for years, however. It's like owning a manufacturing business and not making any capital investments ... Eventually you go out of business.

Did you write something like that on your blog. Now with your stalker tracking tool, I'm scarred to go read it. I'm even more scarred at the possibility that we think a like.

If I had to wager, your posting on the subject was much more whiny and blamed your various enemies for topix's decline.

It's not your enemies fault ... rather there is just no way to get new blood in here and there is attrition.

I never would have found topix or heard of it, but for the newspaper affiliation. That's gone. With that gone, what's going to get new blood; the same set up as there was when there was newspaper affiliation? I don't think so, if they had this same set up, but never had the newspaper affiliation I bet 95% of us who post here regularly would have never posted on here to begin with.

So clearly, that's not going to work going forward.

^^^ unpleasant truth.

Bet I know what your nickname is. Moderators won't let me type it without all those ridiculous warnings, but they don't mind numbnutz like you wasting the air we all have to breathe.

Get better, cause the ratings at TOPIX won't increase without a more creative performance from you gray tards. Just saying.

Oh and Rick, happy holidays to you and yours.

Whenever I come to this forum, the bookmark type ad to the left, seems to screw up my screen. It freezes and keeps trying to load to no avail. I usually have to end the program and then come back again. That shouldn't have to be just for the purpose of an ad. I understand that topix needs ads to pay for this site, but it's getting a little ridiculous when the ads defeat the purpose of topix, which is to converse and have fun.
