Marriage - the formal union of a man and a woman, typically recognized by law, by which they become husband and wife.

Civil Union - a legally recognized union of a same-sex couple, with rights similar to those of marriage.
The "2" shall be called differently because they are!

There you have it folks, that solves all the political discussions, disapprovals, and dilemma‎.

* 1 Corinthians 6:9

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,

** Husband & wife clarifies marriage and separates it from civil unions.

*** Specific language should be used to differentiate the ceremonies.

**** This eliminates the need for further discussion concerning 'mate genders'.

FERREMAN:

Marriage in the Catholic Church, also called matrimony, is the "covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life and which is ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring", and which "has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament between the baptised.

Present-day Catholic canon law regulates the celebration of marriage in canons 10551165 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law and canons 776-866 of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches. While allowing for exceptions, it normally recognizes marriages of Catholics as valid only if contracted before the local bishop or parish priest or a priest or (in the Latin Church only) a deacon delegated by them and at least two witnesses. At earlier times, validity was not made dependent on fulfilment of this condition.

A church is NOT necessary to sanction a marriage. You can be married in a church but it's NOT a legal marriage until certified by the state.

Marriage was around long before there were states.
It began as God commanded in the scriptures.
It was instigated by the states for many reasons but none had anything to do with the
actual process or commitment of the parties involved.( 1 man & 1 woman ) joined in
Holy Matrimony.
I thought my 'point' was explained clearly by definition only but to express it differently,
by calling each ( what they actually are )[ not call the 'union' of 2 the same sex, marriage]
but allow them the same rights separates Websters definition of each to make both
compatible without conflict.
It solves all the politicans, liberals and conservatives, and even becomes tolerable to me.

**You** should long ponder that very question for your postings overall.

The overlaps, the differences, the nuances of marriage ancient and marriage modern and weddings, also ancient and modern, should also be pondered.

The conclusions could be as similar or stark
as the comparisons of Elton John
and Warren Zevon:

Holy Moses I have been deceived
Holy Moses let us live in peace
Let us strive to find a way to make all hatred cease
There's a man over there
What's his colour I don't care
He's my brother let us live in peace
He's my brother let us live in peace
He's my brother let us live in peace [Border Song: E.J]

I'm the innocent bystander
Somehow I got stuck
Between the rock and a hard place
And I'm down on my luck
Yes I'm down on my luck
Well I'm down on my luck

I'm hiding in Honduras
I'm a desperate man
Send lawyers, guns and money
The shit has hit the fan [Lawyers, Guns, and Money: W.Z.

I asked my girl friend to read your opening post and she was as confused as much as my self......

BUT: marriage varies according to different cultures, but it is principally an institution in which interpersonal relationships, usually intimate and sexual, are acknowledged...in some cultures, marriage is recommended or considered to be compulsory before pursuing any sexual activity........when defined broadly, marriage is considered a cultural universal.

individuals may marry for several reasons, including: legal, social, libidinal, emotional, financial, spiritual, and religious......who they marry may be influenced by socially determined rules of incest, prescriptive marriage rules, parental choice and individual desire. In developing areas of the world arranged marriage, child marriage, polygamy, and sometimes forced marriage, may be practiced as a cultural tradition. Conversely, such practices may be outlawed and penalized in many parts of the world out of concerns for human rights and because of international law.

I think what I hear you saying is, if we controlled marriage we could control the number of kids they have and which couples get to have kids, therefore
decreasing the population leaving more for the rest of us and limiting the
number of delinquents in society.
Is that correct tallyho? LMAO
Catholics would never go for that!
And blacks would never understand it,
so 'we' castrate all of them.
That alone would lower Welfare 60%.
Mexicans must show proof of citizenship
or they're all deported when a kid is born.
not a naturalized citizen
And don't let any Muslims in in the 1st place.

Mr. Wolfe I meant every word of that.
You and your queer affiliates can kiss my AZZ!
If that's not the way you want it.
It'll never be a marriage!
But who am I to abolish your strange attachments to the same sex?
I don't want anything to do with any of you.
Regardless of how perfect you think you are.
You've pushed your minority values to the limit and it's time someone spoke out.
