<quoted text>interesting discssion as a rule of thumb ... I think you don't go further than 20% away from your own age. SO, if you are 25, then 20 to 30 should be a good match. If you are 50, then 40 to 60 could work. Beyond that is your own personal feleing . if you are male you are quite unlikely to want a woman who is 60 and 10 years older ...
UNder 40 quite likely means that, if she has no kids she may still want one. If she does have kids they could be anywhere from 3 or 4 to 20 ... but then you have the instant status and responsibility and complicatoin of "father figure" to deal with.
ALso, if she is more than 10 years younger, you face upcoming issues, like your age will have you approaching old age whereas she might still be young and vibrant ... can you keep up with her in the next ten years? I know a couple that is 18 years apart, I see that issue with them ...
I know a couple that is just 10 years apart and it has probably been an issue for most of their married lives.

Marriage is a sacred rite - making love to the same woman for 45 years is not what I would consider sacred though.
Tis if its the right one..........

Depends on the woman.
But, that said, I do believe you get ONE shot at the ride called Life. It does seem a shame to limit your experience. Which is very contradictory to how we hold our expectations on relationships - that sex equals love and you shouldn't be interested if you're in a committed relationship.
Which is just pure BS and everyone knows it.
But, see, we've built this thing up so that you can't have sex outside of a committed relationship - most of us just aren't wired to handle it on either side. It's all very odd.
hmmmmm after being married for nearly 30 yrs & then free...I had a blast & certainly wasnt looking for committment...then BAM...
met my soulmate =)

I used to look at things that way - fortunately, that all stopped two years ago.
Once I got past the belief that the only way I could be happy is looking for a long-term relationship, I finally realized that life is way too short to share with only one person.
But like I said - it's not for everyone.
I hear where youre comin from...but perhaps just maybe one day.....BAM!!!! there she'll be =)

Ok.
In my 20's I dated guys in their 30's. When I got to my 30's I only wanted to date guys right around my age, give or take a couple of years. Now I'm 40 and I still like to date right around my age. A couple of years younger is fine as long as they DON'T want kids. So I'm cruising along, confirmed in my Exact Age Dating Perimeters when HE came along. Yeah, HIM. A fat, 55 year old scholar. I'm smitten with his big, beautiful brain. We are friends and aren't dating (yet!), but if things get going, I seriously hope the equipment still works because this one is a Gem and the age requirements just went out the window.

Try the Viagra test... If you ask "why do you need these?" and the answer is "to keep from rolling out of the bed at night"... he's a keeper... lol

this is true ... I'd say most people I know start to see little signs of one problem or another at this age.

Back to the looking at a butt for 45 years discussion. The truth is that one set of parts is the same essentially as another, it is the person within that makes a difference and it DOES make a big difference.

I think it is pretty rare for a larger than 10 year age gap to really work out well .. not impossible of course, but it has it's own challenges to have a huge age gap.

I hope so ... the need for physical intimacy can get pretty strong if the time since the last time gets to be too long... I know because I've been through it ... he's at an age where he might have a strong drive still and good for another 10-15 years, or he could have lost most of his interest in sex by now ...

So it's good if you are both comfortable with alternatives.

I can't wait to read through this one. So I came waaaay back when and posted that.

I could say more. Okay, I will ....

I dated men a couple years older than myself. Then one day I fell in love with a man twenty years my senior. I wouldn't have guessed he was that age. He was youthful and vibrant and wonderful.

He did have health issues and well... I offered to experiment with him to see what he may be capable of. It was wonderful.

My mother married at my age now a man twenty years older. He was rich and she hit the jackbox on her eighth marriage. She never expected Viagra to come into the picture. He is 90 now and he could pass as 70 something. He is getting tired now, but I know from watching him, I could again fall in love with an older man.

However, I am youthful and keep very active and I'm not bad on the eyes according to some. I do have beautiful leggs or so they always tell me.
I want a man about 40 -- any takers?

Whaaaat? Just kidding ... about that. I truly did not come out on line for the first time ever a short time ago to find a date.
