I absolutely believe in God, I am convinced without a doubt of His existence, so much so that as I talk with you and the other anonymous folks on Topix, I do so convinced that we will meet someday in eternity.

The beauty and the order of this world was my first clue of God. The fact that love, kindness, mercy, generosity, tenderness, and both physical and spiritual laws existed in such abundance on this small, beautiful, blue gem, floating through an endless, infinite, cold black universe was my second clue.

The incredible power of that universe was my third clue. No man will ever create anything that lasts, even the Pyramids and the Great Wall of China will be dust in a relatively few short years. In fact, that great star known as the Sun will expand as it cools consuming Mercury, Saturn, Earth and maybe Mars before it too explodes into dust and iron... it will be as if those mighty planets as well as our deepest thoughts and feelings never even existed.

And yet God himself simply spoke, breathed and brought two hundred billion stars into existence, and that is just the Milky Way Galaxy, there are far, far more galaxies than there are stars in the Milky Way. We can't even calculate how many. And you really should study just one star to realize how incomprehensible it's size and power is. A neutron star is mind boggling! And yet it is nothing for Him to exist within these.

Finally, our own helplessness to prevent our own death, or the death of loved ones. I have seen dead humans and they know nothing. No happiness, no memories, no contentment or disappointment. It is over, again, like they never even existed. Their family will remember them, but only till they end up in the same boat.

My father was a man that hated God and religion. We went to Church only a few times as kids for show and social propriety. As a young man I began to question life, read biblical writings and accepted certain tenants of the Bible... humility, the wisdom of the ancients and forgiveness. I think the fact that all you have to do is sincerely throw yourself on the mercy of God and you become an eternal being is truly a beautiful thing, making Christianity my religion of choice.

I love when people assume ....
I do happen to believe in God and evolution. My mind is open unlike those that follow a strictly scientific path or the bible thumpers ways.
The universe is still a mystery just like life after death. You choose to believe that Christians will be carried off to the kingdom of heaven just for believing. I choose to believe that we must work to improve ourselves to reach a higher place.

I just spent WAY too long looking for, what I thought was a Monty Python skit. I saw it a LONG time ago, and, at the time, thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen (as I remember- lol).
It had archeologists finding a whole bunch of feathers, and one of them said, "it was either a bunch of ducks, or one big #$%*ing duck!". I don't know why I thought it was so funny at the time?

I'm not talking about material things, lol, you can't take it with you.
I'm talking about improving the person that you are and your potential. Anyone can sit around quoting script, the challenge is putting those words into actions.
Not saying you because I don't read your post, but many people toss the bible at others and twist it to make themselves seem like a better person then they actually are. Holier then thou ....
As long as you know that you are striving to be the best you can then you are straight with God. You need no validation from others.

I think faith becomes a guilt trip only when it's put in self or buddha or Mohammed or and being fake or real that is unworthy. God is worthy He deserves the Glory. Faith in The One True God is good...and it's love to let people know...howbeit...God has to let them know himself becomes there are times (as you must know) when the voice of a woman cannot be heard by a man...or the voice of a man cannot be heard by a woman...or the voice of a parent cannot be heard by a child etc. etc...due to hypocrisy...That's why there's God.

It doesn't matter what you call God, it matters what's in your heart.
I don't know the mind of God, no one does, that in itself is a sin. I just do my best each day.

This is where we differ in our beliefs. Though I will say, Jesus was a good man.
There is also too much contradiction within the bible for me to swallow. I can't follow it as truth, but as a learning tool, it's one of the best ones out there. Most holy books are instructional and inspirational.

He asked them, "But who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, whom God has sent."#t5oovFtbEpH4gO86.9 9
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" 14They answered, "Some say you are John the Baptizer, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15He asked them, "But who do you say I am?" 16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!" 17Jesus replied, "Simon, son of Jonah, you are blessed! No human revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven revealed it to you. 18You are Peter, and I can guarantee that on this rock I will build my church. And the gates of hell will not overpower it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you imprison, God will imprison. And whatever you set free, God will set free." 20

Come on - I had a theology professor that was easier to appease.
It comes from inside you - period.
If you're religeous, then your morality is best served with a glass of wine and a piece of bread.
If you're not religeous, then your morality comes from other things - nature, parents and upbringing, friends or just the way you live.
It's really not that hard.
You shouldn't waste your life asking questions for which you already know the answers - rather, ask questions to seek answers for things you don't know.
now that was a great answer, and reading the comments only proves what you said.
I'm going to have to write that last part down because I feel like one day I'll want to tell my kids that.

I used to thik that evolution and God could both exist at the same time..

but maybe my iq went up or something because that's just plain dumb..

why did we ever think of that they most certainly cannot both exist..
