Great....so how appetizing is it for my wife and i to fly from S. Florida into Detroit, in the midst of winter.....get to our room and warm up....then freeze getting a rental car or taxi, and go to restaurants and whatever else they have....all for a four hour Superbowl, of which....i have a zero chance of enjoying, even close to, as much as i would on my Hi-Def Television, with my toasty chair and EZ access to restroom and snacks.......Yeah, Detroit and Minneapolis are a treat in Winter....Sorry, i don't see it at all....
I'll watch it from the comfort of my own home, too.

It's not all about you, boo.

<quoted text>I still think any non-dome venue in February is insane. The big money is always safe and warm in skyboxes no matter where they are but, who the heck wants to pay $XXXX for seats in (at very least) the Jersey cold or, worse, a foot of snow???? The NFL is gonna get the money wherever they go. I don't think they care.
Super Bowls can bring in $100's of millions for the cities that host them. I am almost positive the NFL has to promise a Super Bowl for the city that helps to pay for a new stadium. Most cities kick in to help the teams out. Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder(?) are the exceptions.

ESPN reports ticket brokers saying that the Superbowl tickets have fallen $500, across the board.....not like the NHL's Winter Classics.....

Since you mentioned fantasy [football], NFL decided to gimmick the Pro Bowl. There won't be an AFC vs. NFC format.
Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders did a 'draft' over 2 days to fill out the opposing teams.

I suppose *some* credit is due to *try* to find a way to recoup some interest in this ho-hum contest.
If Sunday afternoon finds me at the color TV for awhile, PGA tour at Torrey Pines in So. California is likely trapping my eyeballs.
I didnt really pay any attention to it. Was it a success? Is it something that might draw some fans in because of the draft? I no it didnt peak my interest enough to follow it. In fact I couldn't tell you if any Vikings players are even in it this year. I figured AP would be in it and I heard he declined because of surgery he was having. Usually i follow enough to see if any of my team made it but i just wasnt interested this year for some reason.....I certainly wont watch the game no matter who's playing in it.

Last year, everyone was scared they were going to get hurt. I wanted some real football!!! I was sooo bored.

I only knew about that draft gimmick because it was promoted in commercial breaks during playoff games. From just the briefest of scanning some on-line headlines, I did have some notion that a handful, maybe a couple or 3 more, of those named declined to participate because of injury. I don't know which ones.

Dunno if I am excited, been following NFL since I was a child in the 1970's and seen every SB since then, this is a great matchup but games played in the extreme cold are not all that exciting, right now I can see this game as a tossup and a possible OT to decide the winner, never been an OT game in SB history.

It would be a great game if they would try, but like you said they are just trying to avoid injury and not going all out. You cant blame them either.

Its 41 degrees today in NYC. That might be a little cold for a fan to sit in and watch a game, but certainly not cold enough to effect the outcome of the game.

The Pro ball was better last night, it was fun watching Cowboys vrs Cowboy for me. I'm surprised Deon had time since he's been going thru hell with his crazy ex-wife. He lives around over here. Excited about Super Bowl!!!! Go Broncos!!

That's what I gathered about the Pro Bowl for this year. Team-mate vs. team-mate, sacks on QB, close competitive game.

I learned during this that 2 years ago, the Pro Bowl was 7 a side and the QB was untouchable. And that in real recent years, "no one" was trying.

It is a fine line to tread: boredom vs. injury. Of course, there have been for some time stipulations of limitations to basic plays, formations, and defenses because it's a hodgepodge of players thrown together.
