Fans ... I dunno. I'm sure most of the players are juiced.
Better tie-in to NFL than "I know this isn't the right thread for the discussion" introduction.

Oh yeah, Jersey paid millions for the right.
Sheesh.
It's NFL payback, for building a new stadium.....

Ya, there even talking about playing one in MN. when they get their stadium built. I am pretty sure the stadium is gonna have a roof on it though.

They have to be careful....Jacksonville did'nt have enough hotel rooms, when they hosted it....they brought in Cruise Ships......a bit of forethought might have been better.....Minneapolis is a brutal place.....on any Feb. 2nd.....

Hello Go Blue and ya'll.

I've barely caught any football this past year,.. I'm bummed out about it.
Looking forward to pro - bowl this weekend.

My birthday is the Monday after Superbowl, so I'll be playing hooker,,oopps hooky from work. That's going to be one cold game ...

'
'

So, what the heck is all this about discontinuing the extra point? Why,.. to quicken the game??

Some say, the reasoning is because only like 7 were missed, out of 1500 attempts.....My response would be that those seven misses, likely effected the progression of coaching decisions, during the rest of those games.....The NFL makes over $9 Billion dollars a year.....Commissioner often seem's dictator-dipped....lol....

Actually they are thinking of the time it can save. I bet they can get at least 2 more commercials in per game, keep the same game time average, and rake in millions of dollars more.

Makes me sick. If it wasn't for fantasy I wouldn't even watch it because of all the commercials..........

I'm pretty sure they could handle the crowd, They had one here before when they built the Metrodome. IIRC it was a huge success.

Minnesota is not the place that comes to mind when thinking winter vacation thats for sure, but if you dont mind the cold it can be a very enjoyable getaway. Snowmobiling through the scenic MN woods, lakes and rivers. Ice fishing, snowshoeing, cross country and downhill skiing. lots of theatre, museums and stuff like that also for the not so outdoorsy types..........Oh and I almost forgot the Mall Of America for all the shoppers.

I was actually surprised that alot of people vacation here just for the MOA.

Superbowl is usually attended by corporate bigshots and is often a reward for achievement....so i am not sure how New Jersey, Minnesota or Michigan fit into that ......Putting regional loyalty aside....i feel it should alway's be played in a warmer vacation-type destination....Pasadena, Miami, New Orleans....Phoenix....How about Hawaii?.....

You are correct, and not a retractable one. But it will have windows to open, kind of like Lucas Oil in Indy.

"Conspicuous by its absence was a retractable roof, a key feature pursued by the team and authority, and one that many fans, longing for a return to outdoor football and the teamís storied past, wanted to see."

Yeah, it's true. The new Cowboys stadium meant a Super Bowl, the new stadium in Indy meant a Super Bowl, and Metlife [the new Meadowlands] continued the trend.

Since you mentioned fantasy [football], NFL decided to gimmick the Pro Bowl. There won't be an AFC vs. NFC format.

Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders did a 'draft' over 2 days to fill out the opposing teams.

I suppose *some* credit is due to *try* to find a way to recoup some interest in this ho-hum contest.

If Sunday afternoon finds me at the color TV for awhile, PGA tour at Torrey Pines in So. California is likely trapping my eyeballs.

Hang on Sloopy. As you say, corporate bigshots. And true, this is national (and somewhat international in scope re: corporate interest/sponsors/economics), but don't downplay 'big business' of NYC/NJ. It's significant.

Don't have "finger on the pulse" of current regional economic status around the the U.S, but there are 'bigshots' in MN such as 3M, and health care, auto & support industries and more in MI and nearby Great Lake & 'rust belt' states. Vikings and Lions venues are indoors.

There are national corporate influences in Indianapolis.

There are other factors for consideration too. For instance, Indy got great publicity from "all media" (sports and business-related) about the entertainment, food & drink, cultural offerings, ease of access to all, etc. for the venue.. That all could be 'vacation' aspect.

Vikings and Lions venues are indoors. Lucas Oil is indoors. The Cowboys stadium is indoors. The NFL is wise to mix it up with southern/western/outdoor venues and *indoor* venues in the northern latitudes.

Great....so how appetizing is it for my wife and i to fly from S. Florida into Detroit, in the midst of winter.....get to our room and warm up....then freeze getting a rental car or taxi, and go to restaurants and whatever else they have....all for a four hour Superbowl, of which....i have a zero chance of enjoying, even close to, as much as i would on my Hi-Def Television, with my toasty chair and EZ access to restroom and snacks.......Yeah, Detroit and Minneapolis are a treat in Winter....Sorry, i don't see it at all....
