California Weighs Legalizing, Taxing Marijuana

There are 1557 comments on the snafu-ed.blogspot.com story from Feb 23, 2009, titled California Weighs Legalizing, Taxing Marijuana. In it, snafu-ed.blogspot.com reports that:

In 1996, California became the first start to legalize medical marijuana. As cash-strapped as the state is, all bets are off. Assembly Bill AB 390 would legalize --- and tax --- marijuana sales in California.

meth and coke are killers. one is too many and a hundred is not enuff. they are some of the known """ hard drugs""", and NOT herbs. They do not belong in this forum. This is about legalizing and taxing MJ. I am for it, as I have great pain on a daily basis. Mine would be for medicinal purposes only. The more states that make it legal, the better. It's more humane than toxic pills in a lot of cases. Pain is one of them. Fact.

Legalize it for everyone. We already have too many people in jail because of stupid drug policy.

I agree with you, it's not right for it to be illegal all the way around.

My point was, I'm not for hard drugs at all. I've seen folks do stupid shit for that stuff. For whatever reason some think that MJ is in that bracket and it isn't.

There are just too many people in prison that are doing time for non-violent offenses even so far as serving a life sentence for stealing a pack of gum under the current three-strikes law.

Therefore the laws should be restructured so as to weigh more heavily on violent offenses. The focus of current drug laws should focus more heavily on those addictive substances like Cocaine, crack, and heroin.

Although Marijuana has been linked to the drug trade, its use doesn't have such deleterious effects as compared to the other heavy drugs like cocaine, heroin, and crack.

Legalization of Marijuana should be limited to some extent for those cases in which its usage is warranted for those individuals with a medical condition such as Leukemia, cancer, and terminal patients.

it is well documented that marijuana smoke can cause others who are not smoking the stuff to feel the same effects.

as long as this is the truth, marijuana should not be legalized for casual use.

as long as there are people who do not wish to be exposed to the effects of marijuana smoke, marijuana should not be legalized.

I DO NOT WANT MARIJUANA SMOKE TO BE FORCED UPON ME AND MY CHILDREN. PERIOD.

Why do you keep beating that dead horse. It's still dead. Until you have a problem with it effecting you and your family, don't bitch. What do you do around cigarette smoke? I bet you get as far away from it as you can, as well as avoid places that have smoke. So whats your friggin problem right now???

Did you know that worry is a WASTED EMOTION? Guess you are wasted beyond belief.

Don't hang out in the cafe, and don't go to your friends houses that smoke. I hardly think they will make it "smoke in public places" legal.

Why are you so afraid and edgy? Jeeeeeeeeeeez, most pot smokers are considerate and are used to being discreet. You have nothing to fear.

There are measures now in effect in most states across the nation that ban smoking in most public spaces.

In fact it is increasingly difficult to find public spaces of which to have a smoke.

The way the laws are now set up, it seems that the only place now available for smokers is in their own home and even that is subject to change as even the neighbors would find smoke offensive.

Thus it is increasingly more difficult to find places to get a good smoke.

Asian bases his premise on the bad effects of secondhand smoke from studied conducted on the effects of tobacco or cigarette smoke.

Thus his premise is flawed in that it can't be applied to smoke emanating from marijuana.

Basically Asian Guy is basing a conclusion on data which doesn't apply to marijuana, thus his whole argument is invalidated.

Asian guy is lacking common sense. I once heard that people like him have delusions. I often wonder if he has been in "his own world" for whatever reasons way too long, and thinks his way is the only way. Go figure? Sorry but I can't even figure how he thinks. It's not logical at all to me.
We can always hope for a miracle.

I've lost 6 friends to drunk driving. Some of them victims, some of them the culprits of their own demise.

I've lost 0 friends to pot smoking.

So funny that Mr. Heart's "Reefer Madness" is still believed by some less-intelligent Americans. The man squashed the hemp industry so he could sell his vast timber reserves instead. He knew how stupid some Americans were, and apparently, still are.
