Getting at the silver that used to be mined in the area?

Well, I think the question is what was THIS tunnel used for, obviously not a railroad tunnel that close to the surface. My [only partially informed] guess would be, as others here have suggested, something to do with silver mining which was big for a while in that area. Hey, the homeowner is lucky it's only a tunnel and not a sinkhole!

Before computers, NSA had to dig under everyone's home and send people down to listen to what you were saying.

I don't know of any silver mining in Lubbock. Is on the cap rock. Will need to see links to prove there is any silver there. Have tried to find one link. None so far.

There's no silver there, but they do have both kinds of music: country and western.

Twas why my questioning. Lived there for about three years. At the end of that time, gazing at the rear view mirror, I came upon a saying. "Lubbock it or leave it". Was I happy to see it go.

Am a rock hound. Sometimes while out there in nowhere's land, I manage to come upon 100 pound rocks. Have two of them. One from outside of Lubbock. If there was silver there, I think I would have had a 'heads up' on it.

But, I've been wrong before. This one I would need to study up on, and will when time allows.

Actually, I should have said that they "MAY NOT" have silver there. LoL.

This kind of thing exists in other places where railroad yards used to be in close proximity to factories. Coal transport tunnels would carry coal to the factories from the rail yard.
