Nolan On Assault Weapons Ban: It's 'Common Sense'

Jan 6, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: CBS Local

Debt and deficit will dominate the start of the new congressional term. But in the meantime, many in Washington are also pushing for laws to make the country safer through gun legislation.

Rick Nolan's comments are not only wrong but do not uphold the 2nd Amendment. Rick, you don't use bullets to shoot ducks, you use a shotgun.
Any attempt at modifying the 2nd Amendment, weakens it. And just as government works via incrementalism, what restrictions would Rick be in favor of down the road?
"The Constitution was written very precisely. To restrain the power and force of government and to protect the liberties of each and every one of us." Dr. Ron Paul
You folks of Dist. 8 elected a democrat/progressive/socialist . All you second amendment gun loving people- what are you going to do about this unrepresentative representative? You had better act and do it now.

Top two reasons to own an assault weapon:

1. They're fun to shoot
2. It's my 2nd Ammendment right

Amen!
Next two reasons:
3. What I own is nobody elses business
4. When Obama comes to arrest me and put me away forever with without legal representation or charges he'll leave with less men than he came with.

Well heck, if Nolan says so, by God lets do it.
I really don't think we should make our decisions based on one person, but if we did, shouldn't it be someone of prominence, like Carrot Top or Woody Allen.

Let me put it this way.. Those who are for the ban of weapons are fools fooled by our government. Why let them take our 2nd amendment right away from us? It's disturbing and horrible, at the least! Have you all heard of the Holocaust survivor warning Americans of an American Holocaust here lately? Well, if not, you should look into it. It's been viral, she goes around warning and telling her story. She is so scared History will repeat itself, and this whole gun banning is the beginning. She said back in the holocaust, their "government" first made them register their guns....then eventually took their guns and weapons, leaving them with nothing but broom sticks to defend themselves with. We have a voice, and when we all come together, we are heard. It's our BIGGEST weapon and will eventually be our ONLY weapon! We have to stand up for our rights before we have none! America has a voice to stand up to the government! We just do not use it!!!!

As of right NOW, the only thing "the government" -- meaning Pres. Obama -- can do regarding gun control is signing and Executive Order relating to importation.

he 2nd Amendment guarantees the right to own and bear firearms.
While special-interest lobbies are a factor (and they are people too) THE PEOPLE have the right TO BE HEARD and to determine via the governmental framework -- meaning the Congress and the courts -- any limitations of the type of firearm and related equipment or materiel to personally own and bear.

When Congress and/or the President acts detrimental to the concerns of THE PEOPLE determined by the most votes, they are gone. Then again, all of this is influenced by courts, particularly the Supreme Court of the United States.

The 2nd Amendment as a component of the Constitution is not in anyway "threatened" until modified by additional amendments and ratification of same.

True Americans and patriots understand all this.

A poorly written opinion piece masquerading as news.

" But in the meantime, many in Washington are also pushing for laws to make the country safer through gun legislation."

Strictly opinion.

"Other lawmakers on the roundtable told host Bob Schieffer they canít support anything that violates the Bill of Rights."

How about telling us who and giving them a few quotes?

And this guy is clueless. The 2nd has NOTHING to do with hunting. And he sure as hell does NOT believe in the 2nd.

ďIím a hunter. Believe in second amendment rights. But you know what? I donít need an assault weapon to shoot a duck,Ē Nolan said.

I was saying before it gets to that point, we should stand up for our rights. No need to say I'm not a true American.

"to that point"? Which is?.... where more Americans WANT gun restrictions than those that don't? They are standing up for THEIR rights. You don't want to allow that point? While you ARE standing up for your rights, that doesn't automatically stop the process.

Debate, decide. This is America.

The Congress decides, the President approves or not (might get over-ridden) and then the courts if need be. And the decision might be in your favor.

If it goes against those who truck no restrictions, secede?!

The government has greatly regulated guns making them harder to get or at least certain foreign guns. It hasn't been that long ago you could buy beautiful new in the grease rifles. I bought a new in the grease Swedish Mauser that was made in 1905. You can't get those guns as Europe sold off their old weapons

IS IT 'common sense' to have a reactionary emotional response to a recent event, the type of event that is actually still statistically rare. Is it 'common sense' to ASSume that everyone will think like you. Is it 'common sense' that everyone should follow "the" crowd and be herded like sheep.

By using the words "common sense" they are trying to make it SEEM like you don't have "common sense" if do not accept THEIR idea. Common ploy. Why do you think they called 'The Patriot Act' the Patriot Act. Because they wanted to label oppositon as unpatriotic if they did not support it.

The difference between liberals and Conservatives:

If a Conservative doesn't want to own a gun, he/she doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't want to own a gun, they don't want anyone else to own one either.
If a Conservative wants to be a vegan, he doesn't buy meat products.
If a liberal wants to be a vegan, he doesn't want anyone else to buy meat products either.

Liberalism is all about CONTROL.

(NOTE: More than one loony lefty lib has come out in favor of scrapping The Constitution.)

Owning a gun in Chicago is illegal, yet the damn place is worse than a combat zone. Go figure...

With the price of ammunition in the wake of the Sandy Hill Elementary school shootings, I surmise even Chicago's murder rate will recede in the coming months.
