What is your definition of stalk and harass?
That's a tricky one, right?

I'd say a user responding to another user's posts on a public internet message board is not necessarily stalking them. That word gets thrown around quite a bit when people just don't enjoy eachother.

How many reports does it take to get a thread or post pulled?
Will a thread automatically get pulled if someone pays $19.95?

I have been called a stalker here to which I respond that if you are concerned for your safety call the cops, topix and anyone else that will listen. it is usually an threat to end a conversation based in personal attacks.

for god sakes people if you think someone is dangerous call for help, but be clean and no chicken little

In an effort to keep some of the other threads on topic, I've made this one for those of you who would like to ask questions about moderation issues.
Two things:
1. I can not / will not discuss specific administrative actions taken with particular users, as those actions are between Topix and that particular user.
2. I am happy to discuss generalities, however please do not specifically call out other users by name, or those posts may get removed. Same for links to content, because if I end up removing content, it would be sort of lame to leave the link hanging here.
As always, remember the best way to address any individual concerns is to do so through the feedback link located on the bottom of any Topix page. It really is.:)
When you delete threads, why are some completely deleted and others just go "underground" but are still available if you know the link?

Is there a degree of vileness a thread has to reach to get the full blown deletion?

No real reason I need this info, just curious.

I appreciate -- I'm certain many others do -- your and the other Top Mods' time spent here. However, some replies from you Mods have been -- well, shifty, waffly, weasily. Yeah, it's your charge to be objective, sure.

I think you have gotten the common gist of the input you have recently received from Offbeat posters.

"Stalk" might be a tricky term and is used willy-nilly, I do agree. But there is the part of "otherwise harass". It's pretty awful on "hometown"" and general/specific topic forums, and it happens on Offbeat with regular frequency -- a user being continually harassed upon posting.

There is no waffle room in that.

If a thread clearly violates TOS in it's entirety, it only takes one report. If the entire thread does not violate TOS, we may ask for specific posts within the thread to look at.

Paying the fee does not in any way guarantee removal. All it guarantees is that it will be reviewed within one business day.

Sometimes a thread that is off topic, but not necessarily breaking terms of service disappears in that fashion.

Threads that get deleted are *usually* threads that violate TOS as a whole (or nearly whole).

Topix allows a lot of conversation that you may not find other places. We don't shy away from spirited debate, but if a user outright threatens another users, that should absolutely be reported through feedback.

<quoted text>I like Offbeat too. I have posted registered and unregistered for about 4 years now. It's not different for me. Some people love me registered and hate me "unplugged" as they say. I've never had problems with people here. Maybe one day when I have absolutely nothing to do and don't like my RW friends enough to do things with, I will travel to meet someone who has Honeydo's delightful sense of humor. Have you read her posts? She makes me LOLOLOL!!!

A few months ago, Opis went into a meltdown reporting Topix to all the media and authorities for advocating prostitution and promotion of illegal drug use.
He claimed that the publicity boosted the topix posts by thousands. Is this true? And if so did this result in extra revenue for Topix?
I have seen no correlation between increased traffic and said activities, no.

Suppose a particular post is in violation. Should one person flag it repeatedly, or multiple people? Or is sending feedback better than flagging as offensive?
What I'm looking for is the most effective procedure for having a post reviewed.

I have a question about the tracker.
I have one thread that I visit quite often, not on my tracker, lol.
Yet, threads that are dead are still there. I hardly ever use the tracker and was wondering if a feature could be put in to automatically drop old threads. Going through and deleting them is time consuming. I admit, that with 236, I have been slack on cleaning it up. Or maybe a way to swipe the tracker clean would be nice.

I would say the most effective way is to send feedback. Flagging is great, but one person can only flag a particular post one time.(which prevents things like "Star Wars is a STUPID MOVIE!!" from getting a lot of flags from one really passionate Star wars fan, for instance.)
