Maybe "The Matrix" can explain things better than me.
I said what I did before to draw a line in the sand & express myself, never to debate (which I find morally repugnant). I expected others would accept me enough to let it stand without challenge & to move on. Others knew to let me hold & express my beliefs in a vacuum. Each person should have the right to express themselves without being debated, pressured to change, etc. You could have started a new post not addressed to me saying the exact opposite in a vacuum from my post. I intended that to be the last I'd EVER say along that line in this thread. I said what I did, I was done, & moved on. So why pull me back into that?
The cussing would be okay for me because I'm mature enough to see most words as just words. As long as emotional distance is maintained at all times, words are just words. When strangers cuss, it shouldn't offend you, since they're JUST strangers who should mean nothing to you. Cussing's just another valid form of speech. Nobody is born offended to such. No, society gradually destroys your brain & forces you to pretend to be offended & to pretend you're important. It's your fake self & society's lies that cause you to be offended, so it is time to shake off those shackles. It's not offensive unless you have a sick, controlling mind that demands that others "respect" you like you're the only one who matters.
It's only socially unacceptable for those who want it to be. They pretend the words have more weight than others.
To me, "please move" & "GTF out of my way" are equally valid. But sick, self-important folks pretend there's a difference. EVERY time/place is the time for most words. It's immoral to put ANY limits on the free expression of others that can in no way result in material harm to you. Instead of trying to control others, learn to control yourself so that won't bother you. When you realize you're not special & realize that words are just words, you can let them go since they'd never stick in the first place.
A disturbance came only because OTHERS chose to make it one, not the cusser. They should have been arrested instead. A stable person won't make a scene no matter what others say to them. It's like schools trying to ban certain clothing, like NRA shirts, pro-family shirts, & even tiny nose rings nobody notices without looking, & suspending over that. Instead, they should encourage diversity & punish all who react negatively. Sure, that would create more work at first. Children should be exposed to difference & even profanity at an early age to learn not to react to it & to learn to live in their own worlds oblivious to the preferences of others. Think of the Geico commercial where the guy dumped hot coffee on his lap, shrugged, & went back to his newspaper. Or the story where a naked woman stood up in front of a car with a child. Guess what the child noticed first? She wasn't wearing a seatbelt.
I don't know if it is cultural or genetic, but it seems men are more likely to have the negative trait of needing "respected". If enough male ego could be disciplined out of every boy from an early age, there would be no wars, nobody needing "respected" as if they were important.(As for gals, if they weren't exposed to such "masculine" behavior, they wouldn't seek to emulate it.) Men went to wars then came back creating arbitrary rules that turned non-offensive things into offensive things so they could have an excuse to control others.
Most are mixed up about what is profane or indecent. Obscenity is not what you see on HBO. It's going overseas to murder in the name of oil & lying to our people to force us to support such atrocities. What's a more obscene word, f**k or hate?
Very interesting take on things, and well spoken. But if you don't mind.. I think I will still watch my language around my dear mother. I recently let one slip, and she quickly pointed out she was not pleased.

I have seen cases where evidence has surfaced that has exonerated a previously found guilty individual. In some of the cases, even though the evidence was overwhelming for the individual's innocence, prosecutors who obtained the convictions have fought tooth and nail against overturning the verdict of the trial. This is very different from the prosecuting attorney, Mr. Burger, on the old Perry Mason series in black and white where Mr. Burger would immediately agree to dismissing a case if the evidence for innocence was indisputable. Sadly, there are very few prosecutors in real life like Mr Burger.

That is her way of saying I can say whatever I want and you have no right to rebut, even if that post is about you. She needs to realize things don't work that way on Topix (or anywhere else for that matter).

(part 2 in response SP couldn't fit on the first one).

Let's see... mother being upset about her over the hill child saying dirty word. Oh yea...

In fact, I can still easily recall the taste of the Ivory soap that she orally administered when I was around the age of 10 just for saying one those bad words. That was many years ago, and I just recently quit farting bubbles. JK...

I would have put that on my last post but your response SG, was little too long for it to fit.

Again a very interesting take. And some I do agree with. But as I'm admittedly one of those self important, demanding respect type of male fellows that was raised on old time values, I'm sure you're probably aware on the parts that we may possibly disagree on. So no further discussion needed, as I personally hold no ill will towards you for your opinion, and I hope that you don't any for mine. I apologize for "pulling you?" back in... as I was not aware some people possibly had issues with debate or a difference of opinion. I'm personally interested in others views on subjects and fairly opened minded about several. Some, not so much. I suppose that I was of the false impression that was what this site was partly about, discussing ones take on certain subjects.

The older generation and those of us that still value many of those old and outdated beliefs are dieing out every day. Perhaps one day when we're all gone, a new set of laws and beliefs will be written. And for many of those, I'm glad that I'll probably not be around before some them come to a fruition.

But no offense meant Spotted Girl.. as that was not my intention. There was certainly none received. I indeed wish you and yours well.

yes you have . but DNA wasn't around a few years ...back

and science is learning every day

EX: in a criminal trial, information which has been obtained by illegal means or has been traced through evidence acquired by illegal search and/or seizure.....this evidence is called "fruit of the poisonous tree" and is not admissible in court.

Ummm..Why did you choose a response to flbadcatowner to quote? Is that one of your split personalities that you use?(my deepest apologies to flbadcatowner if this is not the case).

You're absolutely right man, 51,000 posts?... that's quite a job. With you being a supposed retired attorney and having that many posts, you must have calluses on your a$$ that any respectable sheet of 40 grit sandpaper would envy. I'm guessing 3M will soon contact for you patent rights.

Hey, you SAID tell someone that I love them today. I hope you forgive me for not taking this cheesy man love too far by smacking your abrasive and calloused a$$, because I could draw back a bloody nub touching something that rough....

And you have a good day too.

To each their own I suppose. And far as the original subject was concerned, It's done and over with. She made her point quite eloquently, and pretty sure neither of us would budge on our views.

So Will... over and out. Unless tallyho responds to my manly love love letter. But frankly I'm A little concerned about the calluses, so I don't think it would really work out. Besides, the wife would get jealous. But one can only hope. Maybe she'll grant me a free pass.

Hey, you responded! Awww.. now that I read your response I'm a little hurt.

A] a nice smack on the arse quit being being a form of punishment for me (personally), after turned a certain age. After that, it just seems to get the blood flowing.. if ya know what I mean (wink wink). In fact, the wife give me a nice little swat when I got out the shower this morn... the saucy wench that she is.

No threats were made dude. You know you'd like it.

B] If you can't tell I'm just kidding around Mr. split personality attorney...then your powers of observation are in need of dire attention. But hey, if your interested I may possibly rethink...

As I've said before, the only Identity that have ever used in the Offbeat forum is this one. Will (freakin) Munny. Named after one of my favorite characters to one of my favorite Western themed movies. Starting to get a hint there, pilgrim? Probably not...

But if I'm perhaps wrong about YOU using several different names I do apologize. Similar patterns are looking quite familiar and often the same people keep showing up. If that's the case, then 50 thousand posts look like just a drop in the bucket for you my friend.

As for me, I'm just a regular guy (with slightly twisted sense of humor)and when I see something of interest I post it when the mood strikes. It's not exactly an everyday occurrence for me.. I try not to spend too much time on here, because it can be addictive.. and life often directs me elsewhere. For one, I'm not the fastest typer on record, and secondly I bet there will probably be at least two responses that are new to me and by you, when I hit "enter" on this post... that I'm now just finishing typing. So in cases like this when I attract unwanted attention, similar to SP who didn't necessarily want MY attention.... I tend to think it's all a pointless repetitive motion that can easily be avoided.

Now let's see if you posted, as I'm almost sure that you probably have.

I resent that Nancy. I'm not an alter ego of tally.

But.... I take it that that I'm not the only one that suspects tallyho has several different names that he posts under? Hence the negative icons (little negative marks and whatnot for some of us and positive ones for him)?

I don't know. Maybe I'm just the suspicious type.
