The gun wasn't the problem. The problem was some guy not taking proper precaution before firing.

I guess it would have made a lot more sense had I been posting on the thread I THOUGHT I was posting on instead of this one. D'oh.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger
Hey Jaysusguns is Lawd, I said that homes with guns are statistically less safe than homes without guns. And I quote the Harvard study on that point. There are many others.

The homes with guns are less safe whether the homeowner is a 100 pound person or a 75 year old person. They are _less_ safe, statistically.

But tee baggrz and fundies just can't do statistics. They switch to anecdote, such as, "This 100 pound woman...."

And statistically that sort of thing happens a lot, with regard to gun accidents, domestic disputes, gun suicides.

However not enough gun show safety class accidents. They are the funniest! They really sum the entire mentality up.

Hey moron, you may now acknowledge the link proving what was obvious, anyway. Because jaysus did not say you may lie.

Homes with guns are statistically less safe than those without guns. Not more safe, as you would wish to believe in your anti rationality.

Cretin, given up responding on the merits since I provided those statistics, huh?

True tee baggrz and fundies. Can't do "statistics" or science or rationality or data or new information or analysis.

But they sure are good at gun show safety class accidents!

What's the matter, racist schmuck? Doesn't your religion give you Mother's Day off, or did you have to spend the day washing Fat Al's feet?

Hey tee baggrz troll, you failed again to deal with the content. I posted the stats - homes with guns are statistically going to be _less_ safe than those with guns.

You don't like that fact. You engage in empty name calling.

Same with the juvenile Al Gore jibes. It's _every qualified scientist_ who accepts the mechanism of greenhouse gases. Every single one. Even the ones who have intellectually honest or disingenuous reservations about the most dire projections.

Talibangelical nutcases should take up their issue with the Harvard School of Public Health. Try to do so before losing more fingers in your next gun show safety demo accident....

But you freeeks think a scientific Theory is "an opinion." Most of the right wing believes the earth is under 10000 years old. You won't even accept that co2 causes heat to be trapped.
And after being such studiously ignorant, denying ideologues who can't fathom statistics you make a show of asking for data? Sure. Your "statistics" are four made up claims about home defense in Detroit...you literally don't know "statistic" from "anecdote." It's simply beyond your comprehension.
And of course the Harvard...anything...won't hold any water who are proud of considering Rush Limbaugh to be a research scientist.
Sick.
>A 2007 study by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health looked at household firearm ownership and homicide rates in all 50 states and found dangerous links. The presence of guns in a home is a risk factor for homicides at home for women, children and men of all ages, and the risk is higher for women.
>What's more, household firearms are “used to kill Americans both in their homes and on their streets," the study says. The authors suggest that guns kept in a home can find their way onto the street through burglary, and the violence that plagues many urban areas becomes deadly when those guns are circulating.
>Guns at home are also the weapon of choice for suicide, according to 2005 data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The numbers are tragic: There were 8,937 fatal suicides in 2005, and guns were used in nearly 52 percent of them. And three-fourths of all suicides occurred at home. Here's another sobering statistic: In school shootings, about 38 percent of guns used by students come from their homes.

Anyway, as I said, I want NRA types to have guns in the home. And lots of alcohol to go along with the guns. Because guns make homes less safe statistically than those without.

I know when some idiot that thinks he's "entitled" to my property breaks in my home I'm blowing his shyt away, that's no scientific theory, that's a cold hard fact, don't care what the extreme left says, its mine, I worked and paid for it and like the good citizens of Detroit (predominantly Democratic) willing to defend what's mine cause Michigan state law protects my right to do so.

You right wing trash are so lost in your anti rationality.

You can't even look to see that the "." is replaced by my typing "dot" in its place. You literally cannot fathom that topix sometimes regulates the posting of urls and therefore that those better educated than yourself might anticipate this and find a workaround.

Next time try to read. Git ur hom skool teechur to hewlp u. Even though you will reject the findings, anyway, their being from Harvard.

That doesn't speak to the issue that was under discussion: Your macho fantasies aside, homes with guns are statistically less safe than homes without guns.

I think you are incapable of understanding what this means, so I'll explain it. There are risks just in having guns in the home. This does not involve your Milius scenarios of people breaking in. It involves the much more common scenarios of there being accidents with those guns, domestic disputes with those guns, suicides with those guns. These eventualities make homes with guns less safe _statistically_ than homes without guns are.

Whether and under what circumstances you can set out to kill an intruder and get away with it will vary from state to state. I am sure you are in one of our more backwards states, however.

Move to Detroit or Chicago and then put a sign on your front yard announcing your anti- gun views, you'll get eaten alive. Keep your Harvard surveys and and opinions, I'll go with the facts of reality in my geographical location.

Hey troll, the url works fine for those very few Republicans who can understand the difference between "." and "dot" and act accordingly.

Your trolling reply, which cannot possibly be serious, does, in fact, well typify the usual thought processes of fundies and tee baggrz and other such unfortunates.

Again, topix often likes to munge posted urls. That has to be worked around.
