I pay FAR more in taxes than the average person, okay, buddy. I therefore pay more than my fair share for roads. I suppose youíll want to see a copy of my tax records to prove this, just like you wish to know specifically how much I give back to the community.
Roads are also something that is necessary for just about everyone, unless you grow your own food, make your own clothes, and are completely self-sufficient. So, I donít know why I am so special such that you single me out as the primary benefactor of roads, such that I should thank my lucky stars that they exist.
Good ... a point to re-visit. Roads: you didn't build THAT. WE did.

It's not the same as at the national level, especially when at the national level our other entitlement programs are not on a sustainable footing. If your roof needs to be replaced, would you fix it or use that money to put in a swimming pool? This is where I am coming from.
Regardless of our differences on this subject, I don't think it makes me a right wing nut job to think that it was a poor piece of legislation that doesn't do much to lower costs, as it's name implies.
I also don't think it makes me a right wing nut job for feeling it was foolish to use all that money in furtherance of it, when our existing entitlements need shoring up and more resources.
Why is/was Massachusetts responsibility of entitlements and Romneycare sustainable and viable?

"And I worked with a number of other states. People were very excited about this idea. But pretty quickly states came to realize that without the leg up Massachusetts had of this federal money, this huge federal slush fund that we had, without that leg up it wasn't going to happen. Then a number of states were interested. They were excited about elements, but they said, "Look, we just can't afford this," just like Massachusetts wouldn't have been able to afford it on our own."

Frontline: We've heard that he is also a numbers guy, loves them, needs them. They are his life blood. Was he?

"I don't know. You know, once again, I was only in one two-hour meeting with Mitt Romney, so I don't claim to know him well.

What I saw in that meeting was someone who really felt strongly about the moral case for ending this free-rider problem, someone who really felt strongly of: "Look, there are all these free riders. If we bring them into the system, we can both get them to contribute and lower insurance prices because they are healthy. And we've got this federal money. This seems like a good thing we should make work."

My job was just to see if the numbers added up, and I think he was excited they did. And in particular, I like to think that I contributed to the case for the mandate. I think he felt strongly the moral case for the mandate. I think I sort of provided the financial case for the mandate, which was to say to him two things: First of all, we can't get to universal coverage or even close to it without a mandate. And second, actually coverage becomes much more efficient with a mandate. To show him that if he did the plan he was considering with no mandate, it costs two-thirds as much as doing it with a mandate but only covered one-third as many people, and that's because the healthy stayed out, and the healthy are cheap.

So I think that sort of fed into his notion of kind of, "Gee, this is a kind of efficient way to cover the uninsured." "

In contrast, obamacare costs over 1 trillion dollars for 6 years of outlays. Thanks for proving my point.

Every congressman/woman that voted for oblundercare deserves exactly what they voted for. As does every citizen that voted for any congressman that voted for oblundercare.

Anyone with half a functioning brain should be mad about Obama care. Any time you turn something that should be handled privately over to the government, your in for an assreaming of epic proportions. Has the government fixed SS yet? How about medicare/medicaid? And welfare? Why give them something else to "fix" when they can't fix the programs they already foisted on us. Regarding SS, Bernie Madoff is in jail for a $50 Billion ponzi scheme. How far is SS in the red, and why is no one in JAIL for it?????

The reason the government is handling our health care is because we failed to handle it privately.
Obamacare is flawed and it will take time to work out the problems.
An example of some of the problems is many major employers - greedy as ever - are offering only part time jobs because they don't want to pay for health insurance. Meanwhile, employees earning low wages can't afford the sometimes $3,000 deductibles anyway. Obamacare is also hurting people who must rely on Medicare.
Yeah, there are a lot of problems with it, but it's better than what we had before - nothing.

Hey - just read an article in my local paper that was essentially a rewritten press release from Wal-Mart's PR division. They're building a new store here and HIRING~! Paying a whopping $12.83 cents an hour (I'm in California, mind you) for 24-hour to 30-hour per week positions.
Wonder how many 30-hour a week positions there are?
