I doubt he planned his hiking trip to last three months. In retrospect, taking that dog along was a good idea; it saved his life.
If he had a rifle, he could have shot the bear. Three hundred pounds of fatty bear meat would have fed both him and the dog for three months.
He did plan to be gone for months.
"Lavoie’s family reported him missing only a few weeks ago because he had planned to be gone on a months-long outdoor adventure."

For an experienced man, he did many things wrong, like storing the food in the canoe.

Sorry if you took it so hard.....

I didn't take anything hard you and a few other posters had to say to me. You and some others have bullied me on this thread. And continued to bully me even after I have stated I dropped out of the discussion. I did not deserve to be spoken that way, no one does.

Are you saying you would leave a dog alone for three months???
The post I was responding to was suggesting that he should not take his dog on vacation and should have left the dog home?

His vacation was three months?

If had chose a car not a boat and a bear destroyed his car 100s of miles from nowhere and he was forced to eat his dog would that be any different?

Should we not take our dog on a three month vacation in a car?

Hell my oldest dog has more than a 100k miles in autos plus more than 30k in a sale boat and nearly every weekend for the last 8 years in a power boat if we were not sailing?

Thank you for your concern.
I'm not upset, but I think I need to speak my peace.
I won't let anyone one just walk all over me.
No time is wasted in that.

The next time I go on a hiking trip, I'm taking the neighbor's dog along for the walk. That's an extra 10 or 20 pounds of fresh meat that I don't have to carry in my backpack.

I didn't read the story, but instead of eating his pet couldn't he kill a rabbit or something?

Definition:
You reap what you sow. also As you sow, so shall you reap.(formal)
something that you say which means everything that happens to you is a result of your own actions If you treat your friends like that, of course they drop you. You reap what you sow in this life.
See also: reap, sow

I do not fit this definition. I did not treat anyone here badly. Janice is my ID. As I said, I never bullied anyone on any thread. I may change my name to fit the occasion of the thread, but my ISP address never changes, I don't have 100+ profiles like some here, so don't bring up ID's to me.

Seems as though someone is trying to knock me off Topix for some reason lately. I also get negative icons for months. I've been nothing but nice to everyone I've been in contact with. I don't hide my ISP address like some others here.

Rabbits run and hide when you approach them carrying a big stick. Dogs just look at you and wag their tail.

Here again, you people weren't there. You don't know what it's like to be without food for days in a survival situation.
