There's really no need for name calling Ferrerman. Can't we just post our opinions without getting called names?

"Why did my Metamucil go up 2%?"
"It didn't, it was just on sale last week."
"But it's more expensive now, why did it go up?"
"It's the same price it always was. It's just that the last time you bought it, it was on sale."
"But it costs more now. Why the increase?"
ad nauseum.
I kind of think that they hope if they say it enough, they'll gather enough simple folks around them that will believe it.
If I may inject here, what's changed more, I believe, is the content of the product. Being the main shopper I have noticed for a few years now that the amounts/lbs/ozs keep creeping down but the prices stay close to the same. So we are being raked thru the coals but just a bit more subtle. Even dropping an 16oz product down to 15.5oz makes the wholesalers a big bundle. Sorry if my explanation is a bit lacking, but I think everyone gets the gist of it.

We are being screwed everyday and have become complacent in too many areas, food is a big one. Thank the fish turds up on the hill. Notice they all look quite well fed.

Yup, you are wrong.

The Bush era tax break was extended for you - assuming your income is under that cap (no offense intended if you're over that $400,000 threshold) you will not see that tax increase this year.

Two years ago, Obama gave us a payroll tax holiday. The idea was to put extra $$ in our pockets so that we'd go out and spend and boost the economy a bit. The way the holiday worked is that you no longer had to pay your contribution to SS on your paychecks. So, for the past two years, you've not been having to pay that $40 that you would have owed otherwise.

It is fair to blame Obama for not extending the payroll tax holiday I suppose but not without first thanking him for giving it to you in the first place. Again, Obama saved you over $2,000 over the last two years.

Nope - the ss tax break was reduced in 2011 by Obama and then Congress.

THat there is just marketing. You see it in a lot of things - ice cream for example. I went to the store over the weekend to buy a 4.25 oz pack of instant pudding for a recipe only to find they didn't make that size anymore. I don't think this is a politics thing - it's more of a slimy, big business, marketing deal.

Uh, yes. Free-market capitalism with a wee bit of regulation, kind of. "That's the way we like it". Or having it both ways, and cuss the lobbyists and the politicos. We REALLY like having it both ways, actually.

It was the first economic lesson we learned as kids- the candy bar got smaller but the price got bigger.

Sometimes it's the price of ingredients going up, plus this and that. But, a huge part of it is just greed, just because they can and it makes them more money.
