Don't know how many gun shows you have been to, but I guarantee i have been to more. A NICS check is mandatory for all gun sales by dealers even at gun shows. Also lots of cops at those places. Not good for felons.

Good news gun owners!

The idiot Obama has failed his sycophants yet again - there will be no legislation offered by his cronies to ban (so-called) assault rifles!

Just read the news.

For those antigunner folks who wouldn't know a gun show if one was being held in their living room, a NICS check is the National Instant background Check System. Getting a gun illegally isnt as easy as making a false statement. The easiest way to legally get a gun illegally is to do a straw purchase. This is where you have someone legal purchase the gun for you. That person can make a false statement and obtain the gun because the form specifically asks if you are purchasing the fun for someone else. There have been instances where the person who made the straw purchase was later killed by the gun they bought for someone who wasn't supposed to have a gun. I believe the guy who recently killed the firefighters also obtained his guns by an illegal straw purchase.

I am at work and using my phone to post. My autocorrect hates the word gun and automatically corrects it to fun every single time I type gun. Sorry for not catching all of them. More on the NICS. You would be surprised how many people get turned down. When you do a NICS check you immediately get one of three responses. Yes. No. Wait. You can be a perfectly innocent citizen with no criminal history and still get turned down for any reason.

I want to make sure I have this correct. Are you saying that I haven't held a slingshot or someone else? I really want to be sure before I answer.

Not where I live. Every gun requires a background check, long gun or hand gun. Including shotguns.
You need one for a pistol but a long gun is a question of filling out a form and swearing your statements are true. Dealers can sell their personal gun without any background check. You can sell your guns by running an ad in the paper too

I may be wrong. I have filled out the NICS form but I have had a carry permit for 15 years so I don't need a background check to buy any gun. I thought there was a check only on handguns. I have never seen a dealer make a check but that doesn't mean he doesn't since it is now instant

Denny. Denny Crain. There is a NICS check required for every gun by a dealer. If a dealer calls in a check they specify if it is a pistol, rifle, etc.

I am not 100% sure, but does a dealer have to respect the CHL? Some dealers will sell to another FFL holder without a NICS check, but they are not required to forego the check. Some dealers will still do a check even on another FFL holder just to be on the safe side. I dont know if it is the same for CHL holders.

<quoted text>Guns in a home don't stop a break in if no one is home. Most of my guns are chained up but lock keep honest people honest. A gun is not registered. There is no national data base that shows who owns a gun. When you buy a rifle you sign a statement that you are not a felon nor mentally ill. When you buy a pistol there is an instant back ground check but all states don't report the same. A gun that is private owned can be sold like anything else you own. How would a felon get one of the millions of guns out there? He would break the law and steal it. If you break into 5 cars you will find a gun
Then again, get a file cabinet that is a safe.

Isn't RESPONSIBLE gun ownership something you support? Shouldn't gun owners make sure their children can't easily access guns?

Really, just do yourself a favor and be quiet. You have already made it glaringly obvious that you are beyond lacking in the logic department. Anything else you say is just further proof that you are not safe without supervision. You must not leave the house much or have much world experience.
I have, in the past and currently, know convicted felons. I have also attended numerous gun shows. Gun shows are normally monitored by numerous uniformed, armed police officers and attended by many out-of-uniform, off-duty armed police officers. If there is one thing felons avoid like the plague its police officers. Felons do not buy guns at fun shows.
Outside your limited sphere of existence there are these places called ghettos. They are normally identifiable by large numbers of poor people and high crime rates. See, there is a thing you learn about in criminal justice and sociology called a downward spiral where poverty and crime continue in succession leading a person ever downward. Anyway, you can also identify ghettos by large numbers of pawn shops and liquor stores with bars on the windows. There are also usually clusters of people hanging out on corners drinking and, often, overtly engaging in criminal activity. One will frequently become aware of a very noticeable absence of visible law enforcement officers on the ghetto because they dont do unless called out there in large numbers. When driving through the ghetto it is often safer to slowly drive through stop signs and red lights to avoid stopping on corners inhabited by clusters of people. You can buy many things in the ghetto. Drugs, alcohol, socks for 50 cents a pair from the guy under the blue tarp. You can also buy guns in the ghetto. In fact, the ghetto is the location of choice for people who want to buy a gun in a hurry without any identification or other nit-picky details. This is a good place for felons to buy guns. Since you apparently haven't already, i would suggest you visit your local ghetto and rum some of your theories by some of the friendly locals clustered on the corners.
Come back to discuss this with facts and links to facts. You don't even offer anything here but "I have seen" which are NOT provable facts on a discussion.

Grow up and hit adulthood and back up your statements with facts.
