Good sense travels on the well-worn paths; genius, never. And that is why the crowd, not altogether without reason, is so ready to treat great men as lunatics.

Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better. ~ King Whitney

you make it sound like a person is either "fearful or hopeful"...those are emotions experienced at moments in time.you can wake up hopeful then later become fearful because of a trigger ..they arnt states of being.:/

It's a quote not my own words and people can take from it what they choose and it all depends on the context it's used in. In my case and context of what my day will likely hold it's appropriate.

Definitely an Interesting quote indeed.

Even more so because it led me to look further into James A. Garfield, known as the assassinated president 200 days into office.

Quite an interesting character even if the wikipedia article is one of the most biased* I've seen there.

*not a slam on Garfield but the wiki's writer trying influence your opinion.
