Two wrongs never make a right. The attitude of the customer was bad wrong so was the posting the bill on line.

Most servers say that black people don't tip. The waitress should keep her job. People should boycott Applebee's until she gets her job back. The 'customer' should like a typical entitled fundietard! People like that should be publicly shamed!

I don't know who you are confusing me of being, but I don't know you. Besides, it's called CEU's and must be done so many years according to the Boards of that state.

Seems to me that the pastor was not very charitable. Also, I'm pretty sure God never recieved 10% of anything from him.(Think they got vending machines and malls up in Heaven?)

info: It began Jan. 25 when a customer who described herself on the receipt as a pastor shared appetizers with eight or nine friends at an Applebee's in south St. Louis. Applebee's spokesman Dan Smith said Friday that the group was large enough that an automatic 18 percent tip was added to the bill.

The full cost for the table was $34.93, including the tip, which Smith said the customer paid despite the comment.

so she paid it , but who is to say an auto tip is legal ... that amounts to a surcharge ..

Wait a gosh darn minute! There were 8 or 9 people and they only spent $34.93?! So many thoughts on this from wasting the restaurants time and costing them money by taking table space (and being too cheap to order any real food) to being just too cheap to each kick in a dollar to make the waitress day...

who cares ... the restaurant provides fingers food free so be it.. the POINT is a restaurant shouldn't dictate amount of tip , maybe the waitress did not do a good job

tipping and amounts are the individual's choice ...

yea,, there are a lot of what ifs... Im not arguing the fact that patrons can leave whatever they choose.. regardless their crappy character...and, as far as the automatic add on,, thats pretty standard now too, so if you go to restauants often,, you know it going in....just like you know,, you can fill up on chips n salsa free,,, no "policies" hidden.... and I mean,,really,,, how bad could the waitress have been with only drinks... unless she was a brand new waitress. she probably got the drinks right.... and ,,, supplied the obnoxious pastor and his special groupies with freebies...to fill their cheap tummys up .... come on tally,,, this smacks of disreguard and disrespect to the whole establishment... I just say,,, praise the lord and pass the chips....

It is a common practice for restaurants to add this fee. Call it what you will, there are usually both signs and notes in the menu. Also anyone who eats out at all is aware of this policy if they read their menus. Going into restaurant as a group is implied consent to the surcharge.

I am not disagreeing with you about the so called pastor paying her bill. That is without doubt. She is a poor pastor for making such a note.

Another big lie given by non-tippers is that they overtip, like you did. I have seen that to usually not be the case. The best tippers are those who don't brag about tipping. In fact the worst tippers were those who bragged. That was about thirty years ago, but I doubt if human behavior has changed since that time.

My best tip ever as a waiter was about 200%. The meal was on the order of $8.00, so triple that for today's money, and I could see three bills on the table and I thought "Cool,$3.00 on an $8.00 meal, not bad." I was speechless when I saw it was a one, a ten, and a five.

Of course I was stiffed now and then too. When the people came back I still treated them decently.

Today, even though tipping is not "required", it almost should be. In my days almost all waitpersons cheated on their taxes. Today you have to declare a percentage of your sales as tips. Computerization has made the waiter's job easier, but it has also made the IRS's job easier too.
