The first launch of the Space Shuttle.

Columbia.

A re-usable trailer truck to carry stuff.

And the giddiness that within our lifetime we'd not only get flying cars but could have a honeymoon vacation on an orbiting Marriott hotel.

I remember watching the reply of "Challenger", had gotten so routine that the actual launch didn't keep you glued to the set,

watching the Crew Compartment falling for over a minute and later finding out that Christa and the other crew were more than likely alive for that , is something I remember,...

I remember, in the mid 70's, when cars switched to unleaded fuel, the federal government never disclosed that they were taking our classic car's leaded fuel away......typical.....

Launching model rockets with Estes engines?

And you were careful to pick the right size engine so you could recover your rocket?

<quick google>

Oh snap! You can still buy "Der Red Max"!

I launched that a few times and always recovered it.

Yeah, kinda, it was difficult even though My brother had the dark room for his 35mm stuff, ooh ahh, had to cut the little single exposure section out I think, he learned to not shoot it so high, I'll have to ask him if he kept any,...lol

actually the Lead was for lubrication of the Valve seats

Pre-1971 engines were equipped with "soft" valve seats and leaded gasoline acted as a lubricant to prevent excessive wear
of the valve seats. Using these engines with unleaded fuel in high-speed/high-load situations could result in some valve seat
wear.(Boats, some farm equipment, and tow vehicles may be included in this category.) Substitute lubricant additives are
available at auto supply stores to help this situation. In addition, valve seats are usually replaced with at the time an older
engine is rebuilt. If you are concerned about your particular application, check with your engine manufacturer.
