I DO! When I lived in Georgia, there was a Hess station down the street that sold them at Christmas time. Of course, that was in the late 80's/early 90's.
We don't have Hess stations in OK, though, but I do remember!

My mom would "recruit" me and my sister to "help" her put them in the books. We'd stick out our tongues and she'd swipe them things across them and stick them in the book. If we were good, we'd get to go to the Green Stamp store with her!

Every year when he was younger I would buy 2 Hess trucks, 1 for him to play with and the other to keep in the box. Now he has outgrown them, but I still buy 1 every year for him to keep for when he has children of his own! So when November comes around, I get excited to see what the new Hess trucks looks like!

Is a shame they do not do that anymore. Am sure it would help a lot of folk. But as time goes by...society has learned to be dependent upon others. Sad stuff. But yet...they are doing it so well.

Are these Hess cars like Matchbox toy cars? This is the first time I have ever heard about Hess service stations.

My cousin has about 25 years worth of Hess trucks in boxes. My uncle used to buy him one every year but he was never allowed to open them.

Way bigger than matchbox cars. They were replicas of the gas delivery trucks with a detachable trailer and everything. Here's a link to see what they look like. I only remember the gas trucks. This site has ALL kinds of Hess stuff that I didn't even know existed!

I was also recalling, back when Clark gas, in the midwest, used to give away Ginsu steak knives or glassware...with each fillup and even throw in checking your oil, tires and cleaning the windshield, and all at 36 cents a gallon...lol...

~laughs~ You know, I remember stuff like that also. Which means ...we are darn lucky to have our memories about us. For that was a while back.

You remember..maybe. A pack of smokes/cigarettes was only 20 cents and young people could buy them. For their mother...of course.

How about their competitor - Top Value yellow stamps?

Nowadays, we just call them credit card "reward" programs.

I've never heard of, Top Value yellow stamps. What part of the country were they from.

Yes, but a credit card 'reward' comes with a hefty interest payment.
Debit is the way to go. I believe my bank is coming up with a 'rewards program' for them. Haven't really looked into it yet.

OMG. I remember my mom sending me to the Great American with a note to get her a pack of Marlboro lights, I awlays felt weird doing that. Then again, I remember seeing cigarette butts all over the grocery store floor because ladies would smoke while shopping and the highschool had a smoking break room for the students as well.

Does anyone remember Elvis Costello?

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

went to see him in Berkley, ca and for some reason he was angry and refused to perform

unusual back in those days, there was a lot of milling about and eventually dispersal (we all got refunds)

enjoyed a great ice cream place there....
