I bet you don't remember Winky Dink :) You had a plastic screen you put on the TV and if Winky needed a bridge you drew a bridge on the TV screen. About 1955

Seems odd now, but a TV wasn't the "necessity" in the 50's and even 60's that it is today. Not just one, but several in every home.....

I think we got one about 1957. It was usually a fuzzy black and white picture, had small 'rabbit ears' for an antennae, and got 2 or 3 stations.
My memory is a little fuzzy on this one, but I think we watched the Wizzard of Oz in black and white, and then it was a big deal in the neighborhood when color TV's came out and you could watch 1/2 of the Wizzard of Oz in black and white and about in the middle of the movie it turned into color.
(I can still picture the feet sticking out from under the house. lol)

that was bittersweet for me. Takes me back to when the kids were little. Nothing was better than pancakes in front of the TV. "Oh Mama, you gotta see this--Sonic is coming on" They didn't have GI Joes though--A real American Hero. LOL. That was a BIG favorite at our house......

That's how I learned to read along with most from my generation...now teachers have to bend over backwards, millions are spent on curriculum that gets changed often & STILL kids can't read & comprehend...in the race to keep up with other countries, we got away from the basics & education has greatly suffered...I was told a few yrs ago in my district that I couldn't fail a first grader...had to socially promote him... he entered first grade not knowing a sound & left not knowing a sound...they finally (red tape) got him into class that provided one-on-one...

Maybe because back then, electrical toys were cool. Today, it's all about wireless technology!
