What's the worst storm ever to hit your area? It doesn't matter what kind-hurricane, thunderstorm, snowstorm...any storm!

Mine is hurricane Irene/tropical storm Lee because it caused so much damage in my county...it was just devastating. A local dam was also in threat of collapsing, and thank God it didn't, because my whole county would become a lake, and many people would have died.

I would have to say...Hurricane Sandy...we lost power for 3 days...my sister lost power for about a week. Lost everything in her fridge...

Also a Blizzard we had in 1996...we had 3 feet of snow...once they plowed it...we had Mountains of snow on both sides of streets...it was VERY dangerous making turns...since you couldn't see down the road.

FYI, those Insta Light bulbs came in VERY handy when we lost power...much better than a flash light. I give them an A+

The effects of Irene are still felt here in my area today...people still trying to recover, empty houses, and that happened 2 years, 3 months, and 15 days ago...

Money wise it was sandy, but actual damage wise it was irene- Irene destroyed many upstate NY and Vermont towns...look up Schoharie or middleburgh, NY (towns close to mine), and you can see the damage it caused locally. During Irene, a local dam almost burst. It's really a matter of opinion-to down staters it was sandy, but upstate it was irene.

It was on August 28-30 2011--days that will live in infamy for the rest of my life.

"Record flooding along the Schoharie Creek destroyed the 156-year-old Old Blenheim Bridge, a National Historic Landmark.Local officials estimated that approximately one-third of all the houses and businesses in the village of Schoharie had been destroyed due to flooding. The Gilboa Dam, built in 1926, which had undergone some strengthening procedures during 2005 and 2006, sustained minor damage due to the flooding of the Schoharie Creek." Those were the headlines in the paper...broke my heart-the bridge was recognized as the longest single-span covered bridge in the world.

Yea...by thank God the dam didn't break (some early reports on national news said that it did), if it did so much would've been lost- every town in the Schoharie valley- Schoharie, middleburgh, breakabeen, fultonham, and boucks island, and part of cobleskill and howes cave.

Gilboa too, since that's where the dam is. Our county is also known for having the oldest found fossilized forest in the world, which was found when the dam was being repaired years ago.
