To the best of my recollection it's never failed.
Always 3 to 5 days of cool weather once the blackberries are in full bloom.
It's been 3 years now since we've had berries here, it gets to dry too soon and they don't make it. Hoping this year is different since there's none left in the freezer.

Mine are really loaded up so there won't be any shortage here this season. Last year WAS a complete bust, it was so damn dry.

No fancy recipes needed, just some good vanilla ice cream.

Mmmmmmm....blackberries.

When I was a kid my dad used to say that blackberries only grow where someone has disturbed the soil. Don't know if that's true or not, but when we go into the woods to get firewood, wherever you see blackberries, if you look close enough or get the metal detector out, you will always find evidence of an old homestead.

Blackberries are productive weeds they grow where they want to!
Sorry MM, but that's the truth.

Not seeing any signs the weather's gonna dry out. It's raining again today and is supposed to tomorrow.

Last year they all dried up before ever getting ripe, what little even grew.

Oh, and to clarify, I've got black raspberries, not blackberries.

Think back to where you've seen them growing - road cuts, ditches, embankments. I have tromped the woods all over my state and others and don't recall seeing any out there in the middle of nowhere that weren't nearby where someone had disturbed the ground.

Melody_E 'i' couldn't fine that 'in GOOGLE?'

Mister Mysterious I have them all along the edge of the woods. I think they propagate more from the root structure than the seeds.
See what I can find in Google...

To keep from getting chiggers while picking berries
always tie a 'coal oil' kerosene rag around each ankle.

It's not from the Google; it's something my great grandpa used to say.
