I have one simple request.
Visit a welfare office, set there, watch & listen,
even converse with some of the recipients of child support, food stamps, and other welfare benefits. After a couple hours or so follow one out the door, check out their vehicle and continue to follow them to see where they go and what they do before going home. Then examine their residence from your car.
Now tell me if they deserve your money.

You forgot to finish the sentence... We'll make other people pay for your healthcare, so that you don't have to... mortgage your house, sell your children into slavery and eat dog food to survive after your gallbladder surgery.

Business? No. Though I do thinks it's wrong to force businesses to provided insurance.

I'm talking about subsidies to help some folks pay for their healthcare premiums. Where do you think that money comes from?

Actually, I should've started that statement with a different opening. Democrat healthcare plan: "Instead of doing the right thing and fixing an expensive healthcare system, we're going to break it even more by causing the price of healthcare and insurance to go higher. But don't worry, we're going to make other people pay for your healthcare, so that you don't have to."

I pay taxes also. They have estimated that only 1% of people actually abuse it. Drug testing is a good thing. I'm all for it. Does welfare and other programs need revamped ? Of course they do.
The problem here being. There is 1 job for every 3 Americans who need work. What the hell are these people going to do? Rob and kill to put food on the table? What would you do if you or your children were starving and there was no work.
Instead of cutting this program so deep they need to get their head out of their ass and get people back to work.
Do you know that people on welfare have 4.50 a day to eat if you average out what welfare pays them?
Just think about that. Could you eat on 4.50 a day?? It breaks down to like 1.40 per meal. Breakfast, lunch and dinner...
I agree except for drug testing. It's already been proven in Florida to cost far more than it *saved*. They went $200,000(!) in the hole to *catch* 2% of the recipients.

Like you pointed out, it's mostly children, veterans and seniors on welfare. There is no GOOD reason to mess with those people.

I would like to know whose pockets the GOP/Tea party intends to put that money in.

Some people make a living doing it
IN many cases it lowers child support

Meanwhile, VP after VP after VP after VP is getting obscene bonuses, full paid healthcare, vacations, conventions, kickbacks etc and the work force, the "middle class" is getting his hours cut back, raises that don't equal inflation when he gets a raise and sometimes his pink slip. Yeah the democrats are doing it, damn them!
Wrong. It's Bush's doing. Just ask Obama. He'll tell ya so himself.

A lot of the problem with welfare is the amount of people who just abuse it. For honest tax payers like ME, it's a raw nerve.
I would not like to see them cut all aid, but drug testing would be a good step in weeding out the bums who just sit around living off the government and getting high.
BBM, I feel exactly as you do. I can see people who really need it. I've also seen quite a few people using food stamps at the supermarket that appear as though they don't need it - fancy cars, nice clothes and I wonder where they get the money for those items. I just hope whatever is passed, doesn't affect the people who are really poor and destitute. That would be a travesty, imo.

I agree that the job situation isn't where it should be. Lots of people out there who still don't have jobs or are working or getting the wages they deserve. There are many college grads who have to take lower paying jobs because that's all they can get right now. I'm not trashing all the welfare or food stamp people. I'm just saying that there are people who do abuse it. I hope the people who do deserve help, are not denied it. Unfortunately, the Republicans don't really care one way or the other and if they get their wish, a lot of people will be hurting.

They just aren't very good at thinking things through.

Did you know that, by eliminating Unions and minimum wage laws, Americans would be free to compete in The Free Market for work? Yep, YOU can set your own wage requirements! If an employer will not meet those requirements, YOU ARE FREE TO MOVE ON DOWN THE ROAD UNTIL YOU FIND ONE willing to meet YOUR criteria.

Republicans know this!
