My old boss. Mr. P. He was always there when I needed him. He was a retired science teacher who ran a real estate business and he was the one who taught me to overcome my fears. To speak out and to always try to do right. He was, in many ways, more of a father to me than my own father. He watched my sons grow and still to this day checks in on me.

What is your pet peeve?

The most positive influence in my life has been my Grandpa, hands down. His passing will be a very profound loss for me. My hero? You bet. World War II vet, logger, lumber man, mechanic and steel fabricator. He is the guy who got me interested in ham radio, old cars, the ocean and fishing. As gruff as he is, he is filled with great compassion for all living things. Up until he had to move in with my cousin earlier this year, he regularly fed the raccoons and stray cats at his back door because if he didn't, "no one else would and she's probably got babies out in the woods".

My grandma, who I also loved dearly really gave him a hard way to go in her last years and not once, when I would see her rail on him about some misperceived slight, would he EVER yell back or say a cross word. He was a man's man and always treated others as he would be treated.

I could write a book about my grandpa. My hero? Absolutely.

mine would be the same, part of why I enjoy being a grandma so much..my own were so huge to me...they both came over on the boat, through Ellis Island and spoke the old tongue.
Did not marry in love, it was arranged, but they did love and had a small farm outside of South Bend, Ill. They both worked very hard and were good, simple folk. The finest kind.

Where is your next vacation going to be spent?
