Just where on Ellis Island is this sign you mentioned?
There is a copy in the Immigration Museum on Ellis Island. It is an exact copy of the one on Liberty Island on the Statue of Liberty.

I do believe there is an answer - unfortunately it's one none of us are really qualified to answer.
Migrant farmworkers follow the crop harvest - up and down the eastern seaboard - all year long - year after year. They reside in migrant communities within farm. Their kids go to school right there in the community. Depending on their point of entry and family history, they may even support harvesting from Texas all the way to California. Migrant farm labor is not a new thing. Some of these families go back several generations or more to the late 40's - not too unlike the generations of immigrants from the turn of the last century. And they also work construction, goundskeeping, landscaping, etc. But again, jobs that Americans think of as below them.
I'm not for letting just anyone in our country - but to close the borders to everyone is dangerous. Our country depends a lot on foriegn trade and open borders - closing those borders would doom an already struggling economy here. Longing to purify America of all the undesirable blood is Aryan in nature. It goes against a diversity idea of over 100 years old - one that was responsible for building one of greatest nations in the world - why else would people risk their lives to come here?
You owe it to yourself to take a trip to China one of these days - seriously - take a look at the "Americanization" of China. The old joke "If everything in the USA is made in China - where is the Chinaman's shoes made?" US companies are big business in China. The Chinese want American cars, motorcycles, appliances, etc. The old school Chinese are a dying breed.
"Migrant farmworkers follow the crop harvest - up and down the eastern seaboard - all year long - year after year."

And they've done so in the heartland picking fruits and vegetables for years; from Texas up to Great Lakes states. As a kid, I remember well the tomato-pickers in Indiana. Had short-term school Hispanic classmates at the start of a new school year many a time.

Ten years ago I would have agreed (mostly) with this guy. Now, I believe it's time to throw all illegals out, get rid of the anchor baby law, and put up a 50 foot electric fence with rolls of barbed wire at the top - on the ocean fronts, about a mile out. GUARD the ports, airports. Drastic but necessary. Oh, and put a closed sash on Ms. Liberty.
" anchor baby law "

Yeah, that 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution sure is a pesky one, isn't it!? Those kids just don't deserve the same rights as we do, true?

We'd have a more perfect union and can 'git-r-done' if our Constitution only had a portion of the 1st and all of the 2nd Amendment to guide us, wouldn't you agree?

Sticking that douce tip in your ear again, huh Rear Whimperer? You libfucks wanna talk 1st amendment, after your beloved Chairman Obama has been revealed to listen to and watch everything we do? If anything, we, the people, should be spying on the government, in an attempt to find out what treacherous deeds they intend to pull on us.

PSSSST! It's leaking out of your ear. Thought you'd like to know.

"spying" on the government -- watch-dogging -- is one of our responsibilities as citizens. You slept through civics studies and sleep-walk in citizenship?

Following you? This is my first post to you ever, you dicknosed socialist! Yeah, yeah, the media is supposed to investigate what the government is doing, but then you have the lap dogs who don't want to, the thugs like Eric Holder trying to intimidate them so they won't, and jackasses like you cheering on the corruption.

You wouldn't know a "responsibility" if it kicked you in your mangina. BTW, where is your worse half?

Speaking of buying into, do you need some oxygen? You've had your lips pressed against Obama's ass for quite a while. It's helpful to break away once in a while and take a breather. Pete there can vouch for that.

No, wait, that last part was all wrong. You need some oxygen too, Pete? How about you Geno? I think your lips are permanently attached to Pete's ass. Is there a quick disconnect coupling in there somewhere?

Reform: Like actually ENFORCING the law when people violate our sovereignty and need to get KICKED OUT, will go a long, long, long way to cleaning up the streets and making our communities safer.

Illegal entry into a country makes the people behave differently. They are AFRAID of the police because they don't belong here. They are driving without driver's licenses or insurance. They place a DRAIN on the healthcare system because they don't purchase health insurance.

Additionally, we don't even KNOW who they are or if they are terrorists from the Middle East, just sitting waiting for the order to attack.

Let's clean this up!!!
