A Florida man died Friday night after consuming "dozens of roaches and worms" during a contest held by a pet store, police report.

Edward Archbold, 32, collapsed after winning the repulsive contest at Ben Siegel Reptile Store. Archbold, who was competing for a free python, was stricken outside the Deerfield Beach business, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators reported that Archbold "wasn’t feeling well and began to regurgitate" shortly after the contest's conclusion. "He had consumed dozens of roaches and worms," a sheriff’s spokesman noted.

Archbold was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital. An autopsy was conducted, and the Broward County medical examiner is awaiting test results to determined Archbold's cause of death.

Police: Robbery Thwarted After Chinese Restaurant Workers Fail To Understand Demands

ORLANDO, Fla.(CBS Tampa)– A failure to understand English at a Chinese restaurant has led to a botched robbery attempt.

Orange County authorities are looking for three masked suspects who attempted to rob a local Chinese restaurant late Monday, but who left empty-handed after the restaurant workers who only spoke Cantonese couldn’t understand what the English-speaking suspects were saying.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that three masked men attempted to rob the New China restaurant. The workers at the restaurant, however, could not properly respond to the robbers’ demands because the employees only spoke Cantonese, according to police.

According to the Sentinel, one robber, wielding a gun, pointed the gun against the head of one male worker. From there, the robbers attempted to bang against the cash register to get it to open, but would accidentally set off the gun in the process, according to police. The men would leave the premises empty-handed. http://tampa.cbslocal.com/2012/11/07/police-r...

A was conducted off the coast of Miami Thursday after the pilot of a small plane reported that his passenger fell out of the aircraft as it flew about 1,800 feet over the ocean.

The pilot of the Piper PA 46 told air traffic control that the passenger opened the plane's rear door, according to an audio recording of the call.

"Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!" he radioed. "I have a door ajar and I’m heading to [Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport]... I have a door ajar and a passenger that fell down. I am six miles from Tamiami."

"You said you've got a passenger that fell out of your plane?" asked the air traffic controller.

"That's correct, sir," the pilot answered. "He opened the back door and he just fell out the plane."

FAA officials said the call came in about 1:30 p.m. as the pilot flew approximately a mile offshore over Biscayne Bay east of Key Biscayne. He then landed safely at Tamiami after making the mayday call.

Homicide detectives interviewed the pilot at the airport. News footage showed the small plane on the ground, marked off with orange cones, and several police cruisers on the scene.

“At this time the pilot is very cooperative with the investigation, he’s been talking to them all afternoon,” MDPD spokesman Lt. John Jenkins, Jr. told CBS4.

The LA Times reports the Piper PA 46 typically holds as many as five passengers, but the missing person was the only individual joining the pilot on the flight.

Boats and helicopters from MDPD, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, and the U.S. Coast Guard were involved in the search. After darkness fell, Jenkins told the Miami Herald that patrols would likely resume Friday morning but as a recovery mission.

“It’s safe to say someone falling out of an airplane without a parachute is going to be deceased,” he said.

This is a developing news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
