"64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday."

That certainly justifies the more than 81 people that are killed on average each and everyday in the US by guns, doesn't it?

Unless that is one of them is your wife, son, daughter or grandson.

You surprise me Mil. I wouldnt tag you as blind anti-gun.( not attempting argument)
I actually have lost a close loved one to armed assault. and he wasnt involved in thuggery :) Also had a good friend who was raped at gunpoint.. What I wished for both situations, is that criminals would not have had the advantage over them.. I wish for my girlfriend that she would have been better prepared to protect herself, she even feels, something as simple as a gun at her bedside would have given her the advantage.. she heard him coming...called 911, he raped her,,,at gunpoint and was gone before help arrived... I still believe in my rights.

Good for you Reebie. I work with a woman who shot and killed her attacker. She is alive today because she was armed.

If they'd had guns to defend themselves would it still have happened?

ROTFLMFGDAO!!!

Just because they were killed by guns doesn't mean they didn't have them.

I would've though by now that cyber-education fro EKU would've kicked in by now - but I now see I was wrong about that assumption.

When I learned to shoot, the mental training is to be prepared, confident ,,focused,, regardless of the situation.... and shoot to END the assualt..even in competant training, the agenda is never to kill,, although, criminals give you little other choice..

No surprises here. Just intelligence.

Just as it your right to own and carry a gun, it is my right not to and still be safe.

I've seen what guns can do - not all gun owners can say that.

A shooting death of a loved one for me started a long time ago for me. The sorrow has spanned over 40 years. It will never get any better, trust me - regardless of how many guns you have. As an old Marine once told me, "For every gun you point, there are 5 pointed back at you - and all of them are better shots."

My chances of dying by a gun will be by year's end higher than dying in an automobile accident - and that is sad.

So the question is not whether to ban guns but, rather, how to prevent criminals from using them. So how do we do that?

For one, I like the idea of a national registry. No more private gun sales. Every gun has a number and an owner. It's start. Perhaps some kind of mandatory training (or military service) to get semi-autos and what not.

OK! I'll rephrase the question:
If they'd used guns to defend themselves would it still have happened?

"Mil" surely wouldn't argue against someone protecting themself, and I surely don't, in those and this scenario:

http://news.yahoo.com/mom-shot-intruder-inspi...

And good for her!

That wouldn't require Bushmasters and 'mega-clips", nor even greater than standard capacity clips for semi-auto pistols. She laid him down with a revolver.

Intelligence goes both ways. and you also have to incorporate common sense...a balance, if you will... Im not surprised you lost a loved one. Your pain shows in your posts. and Im sorry for your loss.. There is no black and white to this tho.. I feel pain over my loss. great pain! Mil!! But I want to be better equipped. not become more of a victim...And even if there are 5 pointing back at me, at least Ive got one and can at least try to put up a good fite..god forbid, I ever need to.... theres a middle road...

Im right there with you!! make it a very stringent process... When I applied my for license, it asked me if I had committed any felonys. or had any restraining orders.. 2 good questions.... there needs to be about 20 more...
training? not , your buddy,, but a certifed trainer,, more than 2 hours,, etc,,, maybe a pysician release for mental health,,,, etc....

There is no middle of the road when oit comes to firearms.

But as I've said - if you own a gun and have ammunition for it, ration it - since Sandy Hill everything's gone through the roof. And lastly, no vices have ever gone down in price - not alcohol, not tobacco or now...firearms. So if you're waiting for all this to blow over, you'll be waiting for a long, long, LONG time.

I still think the "greatest deterrent" to criminals using guns is when they're caught
it's used on them and both are thrown in the furnace. I'd love to see that start happening immediately.

Im not waiting for it to blow over. it isnt going to. You said in your first response, you are entitled to your right to not own, carry firearms.. I honor that right, however, right now, I am entitled to my right to , and that is not being honored... you are right, there is NO middle road, and that is what concerns me, all due respect M.. the black and white born out of emotion is not using intelligence. it is using fear..and we will come up with no workable solution as long as we are driven by our fears. You can call it intelligence all day long.. its fear.

Limiting the size of the clip will accomplish the number of rounds that can be fired-I'd still like to get 8 or 10 quick ones off sometimes just for the
exhilaration it gives you.

PS: I remember lining 'glass throwaway beer bottles full of creek water' along the iron rail bridge, then going down the creek and blowing them off-what a thrill!!! They exploded one after the other.
