Truth be told, I think all of us have had close relatives that have gone way too young. My grandfather did that to himself - a kind of slow suicide if you will.
Sorry for your loss.
Thank you. I agree with you on the slow suicide. Sad really, but is how the story goes.

Sorry for your loss as well.

Okay ya flat land hillbilly, I take that back, I wouldn't want your nasty wee teeth anywhere near me.

I've read over every comment you've made on this thread thus far. Tom, dick wad, and hummm....So far you haven't added one thing worth while to the conversation. You came on the attack and stayed there.

Mayhaps you should abide by your own words and I quote:

From here in...you are nothing and I shall over look the rest of your worthless comments.

I'm not sure how much exactly, but I am eating more healthy foods and walking more. I even get on my elliptical from time to time! LOL!
My point is, anyone can do it, if I can!
My father-in-law has diabetes and is severely overweight. In the past, I have suggested to my spouse maybe he suggest to his father that he try taking short walks to help him lose weight (he's at the point right now where he may lose his legs if something doesn't happen soon) and let me tell ya that put me in the dog house for over a week.

I am a firm believer of what my great grandmother used to say which was: if you don't use it, you lose it. I try to live by that as best I can. Unfortunately I'm not as active as I'd like to be.

Aawww DC... I feel for you. But you can't blame yourself. You tried!
We are first and foremost accountable for ourselves.
We can only help ourselves and help those who really want it.
My comment about having 'someone like me' was a generalized statement.
You did just what anyone would do. You tried to help....!
And to be honest hon what you had gone through was so much more. Those were her choices though. And she probably knew in her heart everything you were trying to do for her was right.
It's just a hard thing to watch. And feeling helpless. And I feel for you.
Thank you for your kind words. Am good with it all. Still a tad cranky, but truth be had, was born this way.

As said, come from a stubborn family.

I've known two marathon runners. One ran and was a mail person with a route that she walked. Had open heart surgery even though she did these healthy things.
The other dropped dead running at 52 years of age.

Myself, wouldn't run a yard unless a lion was after me or I was after someone in anger. But I do work out.

I think your trying to help others is admirable. Good luck with it!
Even if some go against it, I am hoping they are at best picking up some helpful pointers.

Thanks, DC! There are times that I'd rather just lay on the couch eating Cheetos, but I want to be there for my granddaughter, ya know? Not gonna be if I don't take charge of my health. I have enough issues that I can't control, but I CAN control obesity!

You know, you can do this. Takes time and effort.
There are programs such as Jenny Graig and Weight Watchers. Even Healthy Choice at the supermarket. These really help. You still get to eat, have enjoying food stuffs and lose weight.

I believe at first is still a good idea to set a day or the week aside or two days a month to enjoy foods you really like.

Also very helpful. Once you start eating, eat very slow, put the correct and healthful portion of food on your plate. Eat from each food item to one tablespoon. Do not eat that. Don't touch it. Let it be. I call it the English Diet and probity read about it somewhere way back when.

Look at the photos of folk I posted right off on this thread. Look in the mirror, or a photo of you and picture in your mind what you want to look like when all is said and done. Nothing will please you more...than to reach your goal. They eyes do not lie, even if they can fool the best of us.

Enjoy the evening, Hippichick~

Oh yeah...And Work Out!

If you have Xbox/ kinect or Wii... there are work out programs that kick-ass! Very healthy. Extremely worth while.

We bought a X-Box 360 with Kinect. Love it! On the diet thing, a lot of those programs, I can't eat. I'm allergic to soybeans and most of them use soy as protein. I do a LOT of portion control and just try to be smart about what I'm eating. Thank you so much for the encouragement and helpful ideas! I was about to give up recently when I hit a plateau. I didn't think I was going to lose any more, but...the plateau has been broken and I'm losing a little bit more. I think I'll get on my elliptical when I get home! Thanks again for your help! You too DILF!

It is easy for somebody like me who has never had a problem with being overweight to pass judgment on others. I can eat as much of whatever I want without having to worry about putting on weight. It only means that I was born with a body chemistry that resists excess weight gains. There are others with bodies who can't lose it no matter how they try and I feel badly for them. I don't doubt that there are a number out there who are digging their graves with their fork and their laziness. It is hard to feel sorry for those who cannot discipline themselves with their food intake.

??? what??
you basically admit to having 'good genes' and not any real self control -
then go on to lambast those without the 'good genes' and no self control,
don't get it.
I am not really bothered by the fatties or their existence, those that are need to find something more important to obsess over, imo.

I only said I could eat what I want without fear of gaining weight. Just for the record, I do not routinely eat large meals or large quantities of foods known to generally be bad for one's health. I avoid foods with a high sugar content as well as deep fried foods. I prefer natural foods to highly processed foods as well. I am not chidibng those who despite their best efforts cannot lose weight. The only ones I am criticizing is them who refuse to eat responsibly and refuse to get off their sit-upons and do a little exercise once in a while. Did I make myself clear?
