At age 63, I only weigh slightly more than when I graduated high school I still look fit and trim with blood pressure around 100/70 and a cholesterol level that averages about 170.

I suppose it is easy to judge, but I have had the luxury of being able to eat as much as I please without gaining weight. It is not that easy for everybody, but then there are those who exist to eat rather than eat to exist who are digging their graves with their forks who have absolutely no self control.

I try to avoid foods too high in sugar or unhealthy fats, myself. My to avoid list also includes fruit drinks with added high frustose corn syrup and drink 100% fruit juices instead.

You do come across harsh in addressing the weight issue (IMO). I think that there is no way to lump everyone in the same profile. There are situations that people get into that cause their weight issues. Depression is one of them. I think if someone wanted to help they would provide encouragement and help dealing with what they are going through instead of just calling them names. It is more of working on changing a lifestyle which first should be working on what emotionally they are going through. I am not a professional in the health industry but I have compassion and never thought of judging a book by its cover.
Ha!!! Bingo.
I actually mentioned most of what you've said. However most only pick on the things they choose to bite on.

Not everyone fits into the what I'm saying. And I have more compassion than most when it comes to these things
But you can't hold people's hands. You can take a horse to water.....

Someone told me that I was too thin and if I ever get cancer I would not have enough fat in my body to help keep me alive, in other words, I would die faster. <shakes head> lol - that seemed like a silly excuse to let myself get fat..

Well you are right I only read your first post so if you clarified more in the others sorry. I sorta just reacted to the title of the thread and the first post you made. Glad to know you have compassion for those who are trying to deal with the weight issue. Are you a trainer or in the health field? Just curious what made you create the thread.

hmmm, I think this is interesting, I get the concept of help me help you.. Its frustrating to have chronic folk complain nonstop, but do nothing to help themselves... but , coming from a claimed medical professional, its very harsh, even for anonymous public forum.. Ive been in the biz as well all my working life, and actually, have never ran into such a callous approach... and Ive seen some doozies...
just keep in mind, everyone has vices... fattys eat..
folks who drink, not , even in excess,, but more than 2 drinks a day, risk disease...
people who are healthy as a horse, and take care of themselves, die instantly with no warning,, trust me,,, happens.....
too much tylenol intake,,, robitussin,, obsession with OTC drugs... damages liver faster than alcoholism
tanning--
any procedure that beautifies ,, comes with health risk,, that will, down the road cause issue in their bodies....
always remember, there but by the grace of god go I,, especially when you work in the medical field,,and somewhere along the line have vowed to be compassionate...

Then clearly you did not read Chatty's post. About how people are always name calling fat people. They do the same to skinny people.
And I have no problems whatsoever. And if I do, I deal with them,,thank you. And where in the hell did you get complaining out of my post, and not Kathy's...lol!
Oh and I always take responsibility for myself.
You should also re-read your post,, when it comes to insulting,,seems you can point..
And I will post what I want..you are not the boss of me..
Hi HH, read your post and I think that to your point the name calling for skinny people most likely doesn't have to do with weight. It is usually actions that cause that type of reaction. It can be jealousy or if they feel the person is shallow. Probably many other reasons. My post was more calling out the profiling of someone who is heavy. Many think because someone is heavy that they are not trying to be healthy but that is not the case all the time. Just thought I clarify my intent of the post.

No need to, I knew that. I was just merely pointing out to the guy who started this thread, that his finger pointing was a little off. As his first post is what he was trying to accuse me of,,and he was way off there as well. As I was not insulting anyone.
Not like some who came here with the intent of doing just that.
But I will disagree, a health problem is not a very good excuse for being over weight, as a person can fix that as well with diet and exercise, they may not achieve skinny, but they will not be grossly obese.
I am not sure if it is always as easy as to just start eating correctly or exercising though. My understanding is thyroid problems can be a cause. But I certainly don't have the knowledge on this to say what is or isn't easy. I also think about what emotional issues can do to someone. I think if someone has family or friends who care then that is what can help them. We just never know what someone is going through and I just try not to judge.

You my dear have regurgitated every foul thing I have said in a sweet candy coated shell. I honestly do thank you!!!!!

My rant is out of frustration. And yes my vow to be compassionate stands. However it can only stand as strong as the intigrtiy of the individual who wants the help.

I too have been in this for a very long time. In many differen aspects. And in all the things I have encountered and with all the people I've dealt with and continue to deal with never have I been so completely at my wits end until the last few years.

At first I had assumed it was one individual and than another ..... Feeling pitty for those who truly can not see inside themselves as to what is really going on.

I'm not talking about depression or addiction or any other form of mental or physical illness. I'm speaking of perfectly healthy (as far as it goes) people. Who are so completely disconnected from themselves they can't get it together.

I would do research for them. Hand outs. One on one sessions. Spare extra unpaid time. Example after example. Scenario after scenario. Givining 110 plus %. Never wanting anything more from them aside from that light bulb to go off.

But when they come back again and again and again.... With the same issues.... I would ask them...'have you consulted with your doctor, have you read the info I gave you, have you tried any of the methods....?' and they say 'no.... They don't have time!!'..... And than complain again.....

I am no thief. I will be the first to refer out to another professional if my methods are not working.

But you see.... My problem.... I am too compassionate. Im the one with the Aaawwwws and that's ashame. I am the one who lends the non judgemental ear. Because.... The others did Not. So coming back to me is easier than dealing with the problem themselves.

So yes perhaps the fatty go to the gym is a harsh blow. But i am that person when you push so much I will give you an honest answer. I gained 25 lbs while in school. Stressed out, studying, sitting on my duff 40 hours a week. But I didn't blame anyone for that weight. It was what it was. I became fat and I worked my butt off literally in the gym, around the house, whenever, where ever I could. I'd carry my groceries to the car. I'd park on the out skirts of the lots. I'd use baskets instead of carts. And that's just groceries. I would make myself as uncomfortable as I possibly could. And you know something.... I lost weight. My migraines stopped. My joints became strong and healthy again my breathing was back to normal.

I took responsibility for myself to improve myself.

And that again is all I'm saying people need to do. Wake up, stop looking for everyone to fix them and start listening to their bodies.

Aahhh. But you see Cat.... You have taken pride in yourself... Just as you took and continue to take pride in your home. You work to keep your home beautiful. Repairing, cleaning, maintaining.... You have pride in your marriage which is why you find casual lunches for 2 outside of the marriage inappropriate.

You are of the few. You stay motivated, active and alive. You are aware and connected!!!

Why do you think they gave you such a hard time about you opinion on casual meetings and doing yard work after you've worked all day!!

Because you are far and few!!! ;)
