Why do people constantly complain about their health problems when they are clearly overweight???
My knees hurt, my feet hurt, my back hurts..... Well geez if you weren't 40 plus pounds over the mark maybe things wouldn't be so painful.

Wish people would stop eating themselves into a whiney complaining mess!!!

Seriously! You are in the health industry and judging these people. Try helping them and ways to improve their health. How about the alcoholics and drug addicts? There all a disease and need real professionals for assistance. If it makes you do unhappy, find another profession.

What do drugs and booze have to do with weight issues???
My problem isn't the weight as there is always a root cause to over eating. It's the blatant stupidity when a person can NOT make the connection between why they're having health problems when it's directly related to increased weight.
Not only is it obvious but it's also been told to them MANY MANY MANY TIMES. By many different health professionals.

So no I have zero patience when it comes to this kind of nonsense.
People need to take some personal responsibility.

Major health issues in America are caused from obesity, drug and alcohol abuse. They all share root causes. Most people tend to judge obese people harsher because it's more obvious. All these people have been told if they don't start living healthier lifestyles they may end up with heart attacks, strokes, pancreatitis etc... I find that if I set an example and try to teach others, maybe they will learn. These people are well aware their vices are causing them problems, but it is a disease, an addition, that needs understanding and proper treatment, not judgement. As frustrating as it is for you, I would hope a health care professional would understand.

Hmmm I agree with Brandi.... But my problem with this is the simple fact that a lot of these people can look me square in the eye and argue it has nothing to do with the weight.

I'm very helpful to those who need and want it.
I'm also very patient with those who have come to me in ignorance and are needing a solid explanation to what is physically going on.

It's those who refuse to accept any of this help knowing full well that being 260lbs stuffed into a 5'2" frame has nothing to do with their joint issues.

And to be quite frank a lot of people in the health care field are in it for the money. Perhaps they started out with gold hearted intentions but eventually this frustration I'm sharing openly with you changes their priorities for showing up to work.

Physio therapist are some of the worst. And when has your doctor given you straight answer lately. How bout your chiro...? Same 3x a week for the next 6 weeks??

It your health care provider is providing solid proof and explanations and solutions to your pain and discomfort would you not want to make an effort and try these things???
Or would you prefer to continue stuffing your face and argue with them month after month that the weight has nothing to do with it???

And really if the treatments aren't working why come back??? Because.... They know deep down its the truth.

There's nothing that I'm saying that is mean or cold hearted. It's the truth. And people need some serious tough love. And toughen up. They need to stop feeling attacked. And as far as I'm concerned if they're feeling attacked than they're feeling a sense of guilt also.

There are alot of reasons why people are overweight.... But too judge them that is a daymn shame... Alot of them can't help it... Others yes... But hopefully you never have anyone in your family that suffers from a certain illness that they get over weight.... Might not be so quick to call people fatty.... That is how kids get bullied in schools because of adults that judge in front of children....Just Saying My Opinion..... But really who gives a daymn what I think....

I absolutely love how people have only read the 'judgement' portion of what I've said!!!!

Once again....
I know overweight problems are rooted from other issues.
Medication, depression, etc.
I know some simply can not help it

But I also know for a fact some are so comfortable in their lifestyle that they Chose to be like this and blame every other health professional for not fixing them!

Why is that so hard to believe???

This is not bullying.
Do you seriously call your doctor or nurse a bullying when they take your blood pressure and tell you 'hey this way too high, you need to lose some weight and drop some stress'

Will you sit there and argue with your doctor when they weigh you in and tell you 'your too overweight to be considered healthy'

Of course not.

However.... Do most of these people do anything about it? Do they sit down and think good and hard about how they're feeling physically. And. An they even form a thought that if they lost some of this extra baggage they might actually feel better and god for bid.... Happier.

And just because these professionals aren't saying harsh things to your face don't you think for a momen that a lot don't roll their eyes when you're not looking.

It's also the way you come across. I am a medical professional, and you need to grow up. You are obviously inexperienced. Don't speak for the rest of us real professionals. It is difficult dealing with the public in general, it goes with the territory. People make poor choices everyday so who are you to ridicule and make fun of people. I'm sure that you will just not get it because you are to inexperienced, immature, and defensive. Reach out and help someone. I hope you find the satisfaction you seek and work on your approach.

Many do not realize that it is possible to be over the ideal weight guidelines and still be reasonably healthy. Hey, think about this; it takes muscle to move lard around.
There was a letter sent to Dear Abby one time. The writer was complaining about her obese female friend whose appearance she found disgusting. The writer was concerned that her fat friend might break down the expensive furniture she recently purchased.
She was asking Abby to validate her excuses (lies) to avoid having this person as a visitor.
Abby wrote back that fat was in the eyes of the beholder. Abby asked her something like this: "If your guest was a celebrity such as Pierce Brosnan, Will Smith, Christopher Reeve, or Michael Clarke Duncan, would you worry about their weight crushing your furniture?"
On a lighter note ;) there are a lot of men who are closet chubby chasers. Someone for everyone. And nobody's business but their own.

You do come across harsh in addressing the weight issue (IMO). I think that there is no way to lump everyone in the same profile. There are situations that people get into that cause their weight issues. Depression is one of them. I think if someone wanted to help they would provide encouragement and help dealing with what they are going through instead of just calling them names. It is more of working on changing a lifestyle which first should be working on what emotionally they are going through. I am not a professional in the health industry but I have compassion and never thought of judging a book by its cover.
