lC you can never make up for whats past but you can make the rest of the years the best for him and yourself..take him out just you and him and have a heart to heart talk.. explain yourself to him I am sure he would love that..Im sure you did your best like we all do..they dont come with instructions so we do the best we know.I was only 15 when I had my son but I was the best mother I knew to be and wow what a great son..he turned out really great..7 years later I had my daughter and i have two wonderful children they are mommas pride and joy..LOL..dont beat yourself up over it.its what you do now that counts..God bless you and your family..

I'm thinking how being a good father to your son can be very challenging if you were raised without a father yourself.
Also thinking how parenting is such a trial an error sort of thing and how by the time your on your second or third or fourth child you get better and better at being a good parent but how he hell do you make up for mistakes made with the first one.
Doing a whole lot of thinking lately....
We can only do the best that we can and hope they turn out ok..But I know what you mean.I only have the one child which I had at the age of 17.Done my best..Tried to be a better parent than the one who supposed to had raised me.Didn't want that for my son.Still look back at the things my son and I have went through..He isn't perfect and neither am I but we love each other and that what makes it worth it all.

yep
its that love we have for our kids that makes it all worth the joys and pains of being a parent.
when it comes to our firstborn, we're just learning to be a parent and so we probably are a little harder on them, but in the end when time passes by and they've grown up we find theres a special and different bond with this one. we're no longer just mother and daughter but now best friends...
but it took a Lot of tears on both ends to get to this point, boy! she was tough! lol
and i now know for sure there is a God, shes got 3 daughters herself now, and we get to relive it all over again! lol - she calls me up and tells me how stubborn this one is or what a bugger that one is and says "i dont know how u did it mom, revenge must be really sweet" LOL
yes it is. LOL - but its all good, we laugh about all the funny things we went thru together..

raising kids is the hardest and most important job anyone will ever take on in life. so Enjoy EVERY second of it - love, laugh and cry, because its over before u know it, and u find u miss those days...

I took care of my younger brothers and sisters.Washed diapers at the age of 7 and even changed them, bathed my brothers.Took care of my sister's hair where she would not let anyone else do it.Showed other 2 sisters how to use female products when the age came.Bought clothes for brothers and sister.Even after I married at the age of 16 I still took care of other children in my hubby.s side of family. When I was 17 I took care of a set of twin(3 mos old) 1 crawling.2 walking, and another one(1 mo.old) all at once while the parents went out..So I had a lot of experience. But that doesn't make anyone a perfect parent.I even had experience with teenagers when I was in my early 20's before I became a widow at 24.Their parents was too busy getting drunk to care and left me to take care of them.At that time there where 4 families in one household and I took care of everything and everyone.I was the youngest adult..Do the best you can as I have always tried.

To add to the comments of parenting .

I am one of 11 children in my family . It has always amazed me that all of us grew up in the same environment but out perspectives , or our attitude about life is different from how the perceiver perceived .

For me , it is the make up of the child or the attitude and focus of how they interpret things that makes the difference . Often a parents parental style can be taken as it was not intended (by the parent ), but interpreted by the child . One child might be (by nature) an optimist seeing everything as good, normal, feeling thankful and empathy for the parent or sibs. Then you can have a child the views situations in the most negative light. So for me it's not what we parents think we did wrong ,its how to help the child be more responsive or understanding of unacceptable behavior and giving them tools understand.

those are good points... we also parent different for each personality... Ive heard so many times... you wouldnt for her,, or you didnt....
lord knows , there is no manual, to instruct on how to take a little personality, and garantee sucess..
so if 1 goes astray,,its not in our ideals of how we envisioned their lives....and we have to throw the playbook out, and wing it like hell... and pray god will keep his hand on our precious babies...and give us wisdom,,,,and lots of strength ....

we are all human... we all make mistakes.
being the father of 5 boys, as well as not ever having a father around either, i too find myself questioning my decisions.(using the word "mistakes" is kinda tough on yourself... we do what we do when we do for a reason) What matters most is that you CARE enough to wonder if your're doing it right...

just my opinion...

and it doesn't get easier with each kid... each has his own mind, likes, dislikes... it's a challenge and i wouldn't have it any other way! As long as you love them and they know it, you're doing a top notch job!!
