I agree .

Just a historian, writer people who have lived through that time in U.S. history & also really have seen "it" from both sides of the fence,
have very unique time lines, thoughts .
She seems to have truly followed a life of paying it forward. Rick

yep, she seemed to be a person born with a real purpose in life..
and she had a way with words,..

she reminded me of Oprah in those pictures of her as a young woman.

I was so sadden that she died, I loved how he talked and she was so genuine and I wish she was my Grandmother!
I could sit on a porch for hours and talk to her....

DESPEDIDA

Para Amando Fernández,

In memoriam

What a surprise life, friend, on this beach

from which that raft looked away,

in which each in turn mounted

and has sailed alone. The Compass Rose

has only served to mislead.

The sea is calm. The surf whispers

wet feet and removed. The skin burns, maintains

insolation terrible infamy.

We've said goodbye so many times.

But we're here against all odds.

The night is now clear:

the keeper forgot turn the flashlight

Calm and da cold. Eyes almost hurt

looking for a sign that never appears...

I thought if I wrote a book, I would have to examine the quality in the human spirit that continues to rise despite the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. Rise out of the physical pain and the phsychological cruelitites. Rise form being the victims of rape and abuse and abandonment to the determenation to be no victim of any kind. Rise and be prepared to move on and ever on.

Maya Angelou

I once took a sleeping car and traveled across the states while reading the collected autobiographies of Maya Angelou.

She was an amazing woman!

"Greyday"

The day hangs heavy
loose and grey
when you're away.

A crown of thorns
a shirt of hair
is what I wear.

No one knows
my lonely heart
when we're apart...
