Pot found in 4-year-old's candy box

A 4-year-old student brought a box of chocolates to share with friends, but when a teacher opened the box to inspect the candy before it was distributed, she found marijuana inside, officers said. Read more

Then why do you drink it? LOL It's the old "it's good for me" excuse...
Legal medications? Hey, I'm deep in that thought-process -- I review medications for patients almost daily. Amazing how many have no idea what that little pill is for. Doctors are HUGE into giving anti-anxiety and antidepressant meds without even telling patients what they are for. Happened today, AAMOF.
Prohibition? Now that worked really well, grew us a great criminal element. War on Drugs? Going swimmingly, for the same reason. People want to get high.
I guess my point is that alcohol is a drug, with no use other than intoxication. No different from pot.
Again, four-year-old with pot, bad.
You are just ALL over the board on this and it appears you aren't reading my posts.

#1) I am personally a RARE and very light drinker. A little wine now and again- maybe 4-8 times a year. My daughter asked me the other day what the wine glasses I had were supposed to be used for so there is a clue how much I drink.

#2) I see nothing wrong with somebody having a glass of wine with dinner. And if I remember it's one glass of red wine has shown medically beneficial. Sorry to disapoint but since I don't drink that much I can't use the benefits as an 'excuse'.

#3) I take ZERO perscribed medications myself and think people in general are over-medicated. This is INCLUDING alcohol, legal and illegal drugs.

#4) As with ANYTHING balance is important and excess is BAD. Stress can be equally hazardous to ones health as having a drink. BUT excess of either is when the health is really in danger. Excess food, excess legal drugs, etc. Example: When I lost my mom and was dealing with her estate and an 'above average' amount of stress, I drank more wine than normal. But if one has to 'medicate' with alcohol or drugs regularly, than I think they need to find a healthier way to cope.

#5) I generally drink it on those rare occassions to relax or celebrate. I don't like just any wine and most give me a headache so I have one brand I drink. I bought a case of it 5 years ago and still have plenty left.

#6) I don't believe prohibition worked NOR do I believe the war on Drugs is "working." I like the comparison of the speed limit. Speed limit signs don't "WORK" either. Not enough police to enforce either. PEOPLE

#7) I have no idea what your definition of "intoxicated" or "High" is. I believe their are levels or degrees of everything. I certainly don't get 'high' everytime I drink a glass of wine. But you are right - many people do drink or do drugs for the high or to be intoxicated. I don't think intoxication in general is 'evil'. And I also think you are extremely judgemental of people in general.

#8) The difficulty with alcohol & drugs in society is finding the balance - the 'line' to cross between being responsible. For me, their is not a place for illegal drugs. I think society has difficulty with being responsible with many things from driving the speed limit to drinking too much or doing drugs.

I don't think pot or alcohol are the root CAUSE of most people's problems anymore than a gun kills people. People kill people -but they USE guns. I think the majority of people like my nephew start out using pot or alcohol as a way to cope with stress or just 'party'. At some point they are often turned into self-medication for some other things going on. His life wasn't perfect before he became a regular user. When you are raised by a mother who's main goal is to keep you 'down' rather than build you up their are OBVIOUSLY issues beyond MJ. But the choices he had were #1 - Deal with issues -hit them head on and make goals for yourself to get ahead.#2 -self-medicate away the pain and make sure you don't think about any of the other 'issues' going on in your world. For now, I believe he's chosen #2 and is in a life spiral only he can get himself out of. So put it this way - did pot cause his problems? NO - Does Pot help his problems?- NO Does pot make his problems worse?- YES

I don't think pot is for everyone. But many people can smoke it regularly and not be negatively effected. While others, like your nephew, should maybe stay away from it. You seem to be against MJ in general just because you know of a person or two who can't handle it.

If you put ten strangers (adults) in a room and give them all the alcohol they want to drink, before the night is over they will be cussing, arguing and at least two fights will have begun. If you give the same ten people all the Mary Jane they want, by the nights end they will all be friends!

Insert the word "alcohol" and the same can be said for alcohol. I am more tolerant of MJ than you might think. I have issues that people would rather defend it's use on the whole, rather than admit to what you just admitted to above. Too many see MJ as 'harmless' and justify it's use compared to alcohol. As a result, you have some who get caught in the web of MJ abuse. Too many see MJ use as a 'victimless' crime - but it's not. And I'm very sorry to say I've seen way more than a 'few' like my nephew.

All over the board? In what way? In my views on alcohol use, I don't wander. In my views on kids with drugs, I don't wander.

And I do read posts before replying. I just don't read every previous post of the person to whom I'm replying. And you don't have to justify your drug use or habit, it's your own. It's okay. I just don't think saying alcohol is better than any other drug makes any sense, no matter who says it. My apologies if I disturbed you.

And as far as being all over the board in post count for this subject, indeed, I have four, far more than I usually post on any subject. You have 15.

End transmission.

Oh my. It already is in the hands of the government. Has been for years. Money, drugs and weapons make a lot of money for a lot of people and make the world go round. Go find a retired DEA agent and see what he or she has to say on the War on Drugs. All drugs would be legal today if the government could get their share of the tax. They tried a tax stamp on marijuana several years ago and failed.

We do not hear it on the news, but wars we have been involved in have a huge bearing on the drug trade and traffic flows in this country and the world ... I wonder why that is?

The bulk of heroin we see is manufactured in a few choice places in the world. Two might ring a bell, a little resort called Afghanistan and a little berg called southeast Asia.

Do people have any idea how much heroin was shipped straight into the U.S. in the coffins of dead soldiers from Vietnam? Does anyone think our government did not know that? That our government was not aware of the crack cocaine epidemic that was going to hit the east coast in the 80's?

Dope is nothing but Business 101, simple supply and demand. We have been after the supply for years and no one seems to realize that it is failing horribly.

<quoted text> But you could make the same point about a child being raised around alcohol. So we as a society need to come to the conclusion if we are doing it for moral reasons then it is time to put prohibtion on alcohol and cigarettes as well, if not then it is time we legalized the others too and take them out of the hands of the criminal element and put them into the bigger criminal element, the Government.

I would have to agree with you on this.I think i'd rather be around people who are on Mary Jane than drinking and fighting.

maybe the parents didnt put it there, maybe the teacher did, she opened the box to "inspect" it?? Maybe she wanted to get the parents in trouble. Or maybe it was an older sibling,
