How nice. Sonja does a terrible job at the Chamber of Commerce so what does Luna County do? They promote her. Lovely.

Flood zone maps are very helpful. FEMA can insure you in many areas, but just as in earthquake areas, one needs to know the risks. It may never happen in your lifetime, or it could happen tomorrow.

It seems that now we have an Emergency Manager that has been put in this position for the citizens of Luna County. Does this woman even know where the rain goes or even flows? The answer is, she probably thinks that all the water from a rain goes down into the drain thingy on the side of the road in town, which is actually a storm drain. She has not been to any flood plain management classes and from the article it definitely shows her ignorance by misleading more people in this County about flooding. FEMA has already been here and met with the proper people in both City and County and have addressed the issues of water flow and so called flooding. So please disregard a lot that she says and rely on people that have been trained and know their job.

Being the former certified floodplain manager (old certification program and new certification program) for the City of Deming (1994 to 2007); a past chairman (2 years) and vice-chairman (2 years) of the New Mexico Floodplain Managers Association (NMFMA); attending five FEMA Region 6 meetings in Denton, Texas concerning floodplain and floodplain management issues; serving as the Conference Program Director for NMFMA training conferences in Deming, Tucumcari and Carlsbad; attending the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) weeklong training conferences in Biloxi, Mississippi, Madison, Wisconsin and hosting the 2006 ASFPM training conference in Albuquerque, I couldn’t say it better myself. The NMFMA website, nmfma.org , has the current listing of Certified Floodplain Managers (CFM) in New Mexico, unfortunately I let my certification lapse this past July. Luna County has two CFM's and the City of Deming none so I don’t know who the “proper people” FEMA talked to at the city since no current employee is certified to enforce Deming's Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance as per state statute.

Daily Horoscope for November 22

Cancer

The Moon and Uranus are spoiling for a fight, and you'll find your normally serene friends erupting in passionate outbursts. This is a good thing, and may even be amusing for you as you watch the show. Change is in the air, and change is often fuelled by passionate emotions. It will be hard to keep such fires under control today, but if you keep the lines properly drawn, the outcome will be positive.
