i knew it the minute they changed the water restrictions things would become as they were a few years ago,. we needed to have a very mild hurricane season and as we all are aware of we really did not have any season at all. so here we go again taking the rap for water managements inability to manage water control. they better get some people at water management who have some kind of common sense.

I drove to Okechobee last week and as I drove through Port Mayaca, the locks were wide open and letting the water flow out of the lake just as fast as it wanted to. The water level will never rise as long as they continue to leave the gates open.

Water will be the new oil. Mismanagement and lack of planning for future needs will have us toting buckets from canals to flush our toilets. The past will be our future.

This is a BS scam. the lake levels have nothing to do with our water supply. water is hoarded for the sugar growers' and then they cry when they cant back pump their polluted water into the lake. The SFWMD begins pumping down the lake 24/7 every year on June 1. regardless of the level. Thats their master plan to protect everyone south of the junk levies that remain. They have been de-mucking the north end of the lake and have held the levels down to do so. Dont believe me? drive to any outlet of Lake O and see which way the water is flowing !!

I have neighbors that are washing their cars at least 5 times a week. On Sunday, it rained for maybe 3 minutes, they must have got a spot or two on it, and they washed it twice in one day. I am still not watering my yard at all, I water a few plants by hand that is it.

Just let water in from the north,PLENTY of it to the north. The Kissimmee river is filled to the top, drain it 3 feet, watch the Big O fill up.BUT,the SFWM will not do it,why, because the dikes are weak,so they say.I give up,PLEASE let the state take over.Maybe an investiator from the sun-sentinel can look into this.

Another government money grab scam:

1. Create an artificial crisis by flushing the lake.

2. Restrict water consumption.

3. Raise rates.

4. Remove restrictions.

5. Rinse, repeat...

By the way... We live in the freakin' tropics. There is enough water in South Florida to fill an Olympic swimming pool for every man, woman, and child on Earth!

The lake level back in Oct '07 was 10.51', The SFWMD puts us on Phase II water restrictions, by Feb of this year we were under 10', SFWMD puts us on Phase III water restrictions, then much needed rains through mid-April boost the lake to a whopping 10.50'- still 4' below normal, so what do the morons do - they listen to the nurserymen & sugar cane growers crying about how much they are affected - oh, boo hoo, and presto, not only do the water managers go to a "modified Phase II, but they allow substantially more watering than we've been allowed in the past 2 years by expanding the hours of watering and allowing twice a day (does anyone think people will just choose ONE time to water?) and 2X/week - all this for 0.50'- it took less than 3 1/2 weeks for the lake to once again drop under 10'. Between now and say mid-July when we hopefully start getting some rain, the lake could drop another 1/2' to 1.0', because the weather is so much hotter and the winds have picked up - Great job SFWMD! We'll never see the lake back up to where it should be if the Govenor and the state continue to let the A.H.'s at SFWMD continue to wreak havoc each year and throughout the year like this - it costs all of us money, who cares about the cane & and pansy growers - go find another job like the rest of us when our industry tanks.
