Re real estate sales. It`s hard to be sure what is a real trend when you factor in the fire caused dislocations and insurance co payouts .I did notice that some people just moved rather than rebuild. I looked on the real estate sites and it appears that some people are not serious when they price their homes for sale. The people who price their homes right sell fast.

Yes, the tourists bring in money, but I believe this should be a family community that bring their own gifts and talents whether business, education, technology, mfg., jobs, jobs, jobs. A place where our young people who are highly intelligent want to stay and raise their families here too. We need unity. There are too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Also, we need vision for the village of Ruidoso., and stick to it. A healthy community, schools, businesses, families etc. all working together because we want the same thing. Not an elite group who dictates to everyone else what is going to be done and also put all their relatives or friends in the mix so we keep going around and around the same 'ol mountain. FACT: We tried very hard to transfer our child into the Capitan schools this year. We were told by the administration that there have been so many kids transfer from the Ruidoso School District that they will not take any more.

If, you have that many parents and students wanting to transfer from Ruidoso schools then maybe there would be enough interest to start a charter school or another school to rival Ruidoso. There are enough empty buildings and highly intelligent people in this town with enough money to do it. But, most of all learn from the mistakes Ruidoso schools have produced. It's time to put our mouth where our money is and quit getting handouts and write offs just because it's our pet project. When we believe in something we put our hard earned work and money in whether we get anything back or not. The youth here get lip service not action. Why are the youth not graduating with skills to move into careers and good jobs? Why are test scores so low? Ruidoso and the State of New Mexico have a poverty mentality. It's not just the poor it's the wealthy who live here too! All they can see is what is in their hand. NO VISION! Someone had vision to build onto the hospital and that is taking thousands of dollars. Aren't our children worth millions and more? Think about it?

Ignorance running rampant in New Mexico..Realtors that sold their souls for the dollar so many years ago and still doing the same. Schools that can't even spell education. Capitan no better than Ruidoso. Just Stupid spreading Stupid. Our local government is lower than worms. The race track that is the lowest of all, except the realtors and people here wonder what can be done? MERCY.. Some things in this life are fixable but not in this area. I wish it was....

The only reason kids want to go to school in Capitan is because they want to go 4 days a week instead of 5. If Ruidoso started that, the kids would want to stay.

Well that depends if all the money saved on bus fuel,ac,water etc was put in to programs and classrooms then maybe that would make the school a better place to be.You stated it was the only reason I think there could be other reasons as well.

Does this mean moving to Ruidoso, instead of being in Hobbs?

Ummm, Sell everything and leave, while the property here still holds some measure of value. Without water this property is worthless. Ohhh, you can hang out and see your property taxes go up to raise revenue. That sounds fun.
