Soon and Briggs: Global-warming fanatics take note – Sunspots do impact climate

Sep 12, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Free Republic

Chinese imperial astronomers kept detailed sunspot records. They noticed that more sunspots meant warmer weather.

This thread title reminds us the question:
what are deniers good for?

The answer is always: Nothing. Deniers are good for NOT A THING!

Just look at the course of this forum over the years. Science progresses but deniers never learn science. They repeat what their masters tell them about science.

Deniers add their own hateful stuff because of who they are. Deniers are haters!

I agree.
Now, name some deniers and explain exactly what they deny?

Like the addition of ancient history the the perspective.

Interesting bit is that the number of granules (Earth sized fireballs of cooling plasma) in the solar surface is a constant throughout the solar cycle.
The extra heat during solar maxima sunspot cycles is because the magnetic field lines hosting the sunspots get in the way of the granules, so to fit the granules in, the solar diameter expands enabling the granules to emerge in the space surrounding the sunspots (all held together at roughly 27g).

Result is that during a solar max we get a slightly larger solar diameter & the extra radiative heat from the sunspots as an add on.

For studies of the solar cycle, the best analogues are actually ehe Alpha canum Venaticorum variables. These stars are He core burners (about 0.4 solar masses in the core) surrounded by a close packed H burning shell with radiative surround precipitating He onto the He burning core; overtopped by the same convective shell structure typical of solar type stars with the wole star anywhere from bright examples (4 solar masses Mv ~-2), down to faint examples (1.5 solar masses Mv +1.5).
The reasoin that they are interesting is that the max-min cycles last between 1 and 4 days! and the transition from solar type max-min cycles to maunder minima with the star becoming constant or evolving from constant to variable occurs in timescales of a century or so.
As they present as B or A type stars (mostly H & He in the spectrum) the sunspots are visible as lines of metals in the spectrum (ie. Si, Hg, Cr, Sr Mn etc.) which vary according to the cycle. The magnetic fields in this case are fierce and may undergo zeeman splitting. Also of note for these natural labs is that their collapse from H shell red giant to He core burner results in a very rapid spin rate.

These stars are also brighter in max min cycles than during maunder min on average.

Alpha Canum venaticorum eventually eveolve into delta scuti variables due to additions of pulsations and a decrease in spin rate as the star grows in diameter & cools.

Solar type stars have slower variations which keep on going through maunder max & min cycles, we are currently in a maunder max so enjoy the extra heat.

Still stuck in or near to Nuneaton, Ag?

Whatever happened to your idea of spreading the wings?

This is the same legacy as the one that drove me to emigrate.

The Labour party's finest created a cartel interested in directed low skill low wage labour & rack rental.

The low skill low wage labour cartel of wage theives trading as agencies is now history.

The rack rental cartel has destroyed the bulk of the 1st time housebuyers, and successfully enabled continued construction of a subsidised tenament to become the next labour party tied rack rental sink estate. The result of this subsidy has been a 30,000 reduction in the asking price for my house and (currently at least), one estate agent going to the wall.

My career is still history, and currently my nose is out of shape as a result of a dose of silly name calling & vandalism inspired by a labour party union leader in social services whom advocated that I work for the cartels & threw the teddy out of the pram when the labour party lost the last election.
As for the "social home" dwellers responsible for that episode last year... One was jailed as a result of the failure of the "care in the community order" that she was released under, One other was jailed for 4 years for burglary and 2 families were evicted for anti sociel behaviour one of which appears to be the family of said burglar.

The MP advocating all this mess was Mike O Brien whom is justifiably out of office.

Been nice & quiet this year.
