At least twelve operating nuclear reactors are in the predicted path of Hurricane Florence, which has been upgraded to a category 4 storm as it surges toward the U.S. East Coast. According to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which offers an interactive map of active nuclear reactors , two plants are vulnerable to both heavy rainfall and the expected storm surge which could bring a surge of up to 20 feet of ocean water pouring into coastal areas.

Will Florence be the driving force for the U.S. equivalent of Fukushima? The weather service is predicting the storm may stall in such a way as to bring (feet) of rain into the area. Even IF the sea surge doesn't affect these plants, will the down pour flood the nuclear sites drowning generators that might be needed to pump water out of the reactor vicinity or keep the reactors from going critical? This is what happened at Fukushima, the wall of sea water killed the backup generators and the reactors began to go critical. We should know by Sunday.

Yeah, nothing happened? B.S., a lot of fueled plants owned by Duke Energy went down and stayed down for days. Duke's power plants that were solar PV farms, went down and were back online the next day. Folks like to talk about intermittent wind and solar PV generation, then fail to see how these technologies integrate into the grid system. The point was some of these nuclear plants are of the same period and same basic design of the Fukushima plant. Even three mile island had more safeties built in than these plants have. Roll the dice til ya glow. LOL
