Klamath Tribes and feds exercise water rights in Oregon, will shut off irrigation for ranches

Jun 10, 2013 Full story: Nanaimo Daily News 97

Tens of thousands of acres in Oregon's drought-stricken Klamath Basin will have to go without irrigation water this summer after the Klamath Tribes and the federal government exercised for the first time newly confirmed powers that put the tribes in the driver's seat over the use of water.

The article above says Don Gentry is going to force the farmers to force us to keep our word? Where does the double talk end? The water doesnt belong to anyone alive. It belongs to the future. If there were any Indians makinbg decisions around here, they would already know that. There aren't. Let them bozos make deals with their own body parts...not our water..that belongs to the future generations. WE are here to gaurd it...not sell it. But Im sure thats what they will do next. Thanks Mitchell & Hatcher.

Isn't what matters is that Mitchell resolved water conflicts in the Klamath Basin, bringing the salmon home and now there is hope of homeland sustainability by negotiating the KBRA agreement?

MANAGEMENT. Since man has valued $$$ that can be made off of the land over conservation, management of resources is required. This is a forward step in the never ending trials of water management. Without limits resources are used faster as most only think about today rather than tomorrow. Those who now want to use what they want will need to revise their monetary desires now that no matter what they are willing to pay the resource is just not for sale - or is it?

You folks dont get it. This is the same as termination..... putting a price on something that is priceless. If our ancestors seen this tribe getting ready to sell out again they would disown us! You can sell and trade fish and deer meat and other edibles off the forest but NOT the very essence that creates them. Only a white person would do that! Not a real Indian. There are no real Indians here......only a shell of what used to be. from the looks of things that will be gone soon too and when the klamath basin is a large dust bowl in 100 years the Klamath tribes will get the blame for letting this whole basin turn to crap because the elders of this tribe sold our rez in 1954. Way to go. Oh, I forgot...no one is to blame! Some people think that was the thing to do but now regret it but still they are not guilty of anything...except not holding out for more $$$$$ lol.

What? Did you bump your head? Nothing is resolved other than the Klamaths again screwed the Modocs. I for one am sick and tired of this "we are one tribe" crap! If we were one tribe then "WE" wouldn't sell off all of the Modocs rights, not just water but all with the KBRA & KHSA. And what Salmon, you mean the frozen processed stuff? It's the same ol stuff that has always gone on with the GREEDY KLAMATHS, always looking out for their own pockets and that's it. I an Sick and Tired of this, any other Modoc's & Yahooskins had it with this crap?

Mitchell & Hatcher didnt do anything that the big shots back east didnt want them to do and everything they told them to do. They had to get a couple of non Indians to talk for them in their little tribal destruction team just to be taken serious. Mitchel and Hatcher dont have the smarts to be involved. And whats more, they are going against what any real Indian would do. They would ask how is this going to affect the tribe in 7 (SEVEN) generations from now!!!!!!!! They only ask "how much do I get for selling us out again!!"

The success of healthy salmon runs has to involve the Trinity! Don't think it's a part of any restoration agreement! That's why in my opinion its just a hoax perpetrated by people who have no experience with salmon or fish and wildlife resources in the upper Klamath basin! A waste of money and a disgrace to salmon and the tribes on the Klamath river and its tributaries! Yes Nonsense!

Insulting a tribe that knows more about salmon in their little finger than you know about in your trip to Fred Meyer to buy an Alaska sockeye salmon you can't afford because its now $5.99 a lb so you'll buy chicken and hamburger is amusing! Their one of the smart tribes who didnt compromise their treaty rights Fool by not entering in an agreement to help a few greedy farmers! Birds of a feather flick together ! Hating Modocs and Paiutes only proves you don't care about being tribal only about yourself!

Sorry I dont shop at fred meyer. I actually posted that to try and open your eyes. The facts are that Hoopa did settle in the Trinity. Agreeing to send most of that water to central cali farmers. And really this thread is about the tribes historic call on water based on the senior water right. I also apologize to the Modocs and Piautes. Most of them are reasonable folks and many are family. My bad for sure..let those darn emotions get the best of me.

This is totally false! No agreement was made to give water or sell water!
