SUSAN BROWN: Administration over-regulation hurts farms

July 2012

The Obama administration is no friend of farmers, and the recent stunt involving the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sending spy planes over the state of Nebraska to keep an eye on where cows drop their patties is the latest example of overreach by an administration that is bent on controlling every aspect of our lives, but farming in particular.

According to the Lincoln Journal Star, the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality has been overseeing the health of Nebraska’s waters for more than 30 years, and its director, Mike Linder, says he’s not sure why the flyovers are taking place. Why let the states do for themselves what our all-knowing, all-seeing government can do for them?

At an agricultural conference in November 2011 keynote speaker and environmental attorney, Harriet Hageman, warned “The EPA is one of the most insidious organizations in the US.” and is “a prime example of regulation without representation.”

Farmers and ranchers have similar concerns about Obama’s U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). During a bus tour across rural America last summer, Obama was confronted time and again by ranchers and farmers concerned that unsubstantiated regulation was regulating them out of business. According to the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, proposed USDA regulations “would cost 114,000 jobs nationwide and increase retail meat prices more than three percent.” A statistic likely lost on a president whose discriminating palate includes $100 steaks.

Certainly no one can forget the USDA’s attempt to impose a Christmas tree “tax”(fee) to “improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees.” Bah humbug.

Last fall, the Department of Labor (DOL) attempted to regulate the relationship shared between parents and their kids on family farms.

According to Politico, the proposed rule would have prohibited those under age 16 from manual labor like stall cleaning using a shovel and using a battery-operated screwdriver. When I was a kid, this type of manual labor was called Saturday morning chores.

The bill also limited exposure to sunlight based upon wind speed and humidity as well as participation in 4-H clubs. And Michelle Obama wonders why our kids are so fat.

Why is Obama such a Jackass?

Government control of the farming industry is illustrative of the Obama administration which operates more like a dictatorship than a representative democracy.

Whether it’s farming, healthcare, the auto industry or energy production, there is no amount of government intervention and overreach that can replace good, old-fashioned American ingenuity and hard work.

Costly EPA Regulations Hurt Families

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.– Speaking with a cross-section of Missouri’s agriculture community, Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst and former U.S. Senator Kit Bond hosted a roundtable at the State Fair in Sedalia outlining the multitude of backdoor mandates being imposed by EPA bureaucrats in Washington that will increase the cost of energy for every American, kill jobs, and slow our nation’s already struggling economic recovery.

“Everything farmers buy uses energy,” said Hurst.“From drying grain to crop protection chemicals, we depend on a reasonably priced supply of energy. If the EPA is successful in all of their regulatory efforts, farmers will no longer have access to the energy we need at prices we can afford. That's bad for farmers, bad for consumers, and bad for everyone who eats.”

“All Americans want a cleaner energy future, but the EPA bureaucrats’ assault on affordable energy and jobs is not the way to go,” said Bond.“Earth to the EPA – regulations can’t be made in a vacuum – they should take into consideration the economic reality and impact on our recovery.”

Currently there are nearly 30 major regulations and more than 170 major policy rules the EPA is trying to impose on energy producers. The results from recent analysis from the National Economic Research Associates (NERA) on the costs of these regulations are alarming. NERA’s research shows that by 2020 the cost of just two of the proposed EPA mandates – the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule and the Utility MACT rules – would be devastating. These two rules alone will result in the loss of 1.4 million jobs and an average utility bill increase of 11.5 percent – and in some cases, more than 20 percent.

Bond and Hurst pointed out that EPA’s plans to move forward – and even accelerate in some cases – with costly new regulations at this time does not make economic sense. With many Americans still out of work – with a national unemployment at 9 percent – now is not the time to impose new burdens on struggling families, farmers, and businesses. For example, under the Clean Air Act, our ambient air quality standard for ozone is up for review in 2013, but the EPA wants to accelerate the schedule and lower standards now. Recent air monitoring data indicates this move would place the entire state of Missouri in non-attainment, which would halt factory-expansion, permitting for new factories, and make the cost of doing business in Missouri more expensive.

Obama’s Attacks on the Family Farm Come Straight From Marxist Handbook

Posted by Jim Hoft
Thursday, April 26, 2012

Barack Obama is attacking the family farm – an American tradition.
The administration’s Department of Labor implemented new regulations to restrict children from working on the family farm. This is despite the fact that farm accidents and injuries have decreased over the past several years.

For generations children and adults have worked together on the family farm.
Those days are over.

So why would Barack Obama attack farmers?

Attacking family farms is nothing new. It comes straight from the Marxist handbook.

Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh at Canada Free Press reported:

- The Marxist-Leninist dogma said,“A small property generates capitalism day by day, minute by minute, spontaneous, and in mass proportions.” The small-time farmer feeding his family, with a little surplus, was seen as an individual member of the bourgeoisie, requiring squashing.

The commie’s strategy was to turn farmers against the richer farmers through class envy and class warfare and it worked quite well…

…Collectivization was completed in 1962 with medal awarding ceremonies. The chaotic and mismanaged agricultural system under communists experienced such a sustained crisis between 1948-1962, that the effects are still felt today, twenty-three years after the communists lost power.

Can this happen in America? Can we lose our land and property to someone else deemed more deserving by constant leftist propaganda?

Can we lose our land to wilderness because environmentalists in control force us to move? Or is it already happening peacefully and silently while the population is being soothed with “hope and change”, lies and fabrications on a daily basis?

New Projection: Romney 52, Obama 47

The bipartisan Battleground Poll, in its “vote election model,” is projecting that Mitt Romney will defeat President Obama 52 percent to 47 percent.

The poll also found that Romney has an even greater advantage among middle class voters, 52 percent to 45 percent.

While Obama can close the gap with a strong voter turnout effort,“reports from the field would indicate that not to be the case, and Mitt Romney may well be heading to a decisive victory,” says pollster Ed Goeas.

Wow, you really buy into any shit you read, don't you? that little bit of false factoid was put out when there were more votes in one district than there were voters on the register, totally forgetting that MN has same day registration. when you sane people added the number of people that registered that day at the polls, guess what? they matched perfectly with the number of votes! Funny how that works...

After I continually point out that your partial truths are incorrect, are you finally starting to think you need to get better news sources?
