Silt, CO

For starters, featuring Lyon as the spokesman for farming & ranching on the western slope seems a bit of a stretch, since he has primarily been a developer and construction co owner & a relative newcomer to the area. Lyon owns land on Silt mesa which is not Peach Valley; he also sits on the Energy Advisory Board whose members are hand picked by the big energy companies operating in Garfield County.

PV sits between New Castle and Silt and enjoys excellent water rights, not related to reservoirs or rivers. That reservoirs are depleted is an example of the drought but reservoirs are not the source of irrigation water for PV; they are for Lyon.

Kuhns (a great guy) is a small farmer w/ a small share at the end of the big ditch in Peach Valley. The ditch is more like a canal with senior water rights dating back to the late 1880's because of Frank Delaney, who wrote much of the water law and owned water rights out of the ditch. Why doesn't the Telegram interview the old timers in the PV area who are 3rd, 4th and 5th generation? farmers with true knowledge of the area?
