The traffic tie up on rout 8 south was horrific. Why is this work not posted on the web site of the Ohio Department of Transportation on construction?[ http://www.dot.state.oh.us/ ] How long will these tie-ups continue; When will the north bound side begin - Why are they not posting warning signs a few weeks ahead so we locals can take alternate routes? Thanks

Gee Dyer, this isn't up to y'alls usual award winnin' traffic reportin' standards. A point to consider: Traffic can be tied up at anytime for any reason. So why would any-buddy care iff'n some poopypants cry-baby didn't leave early enough to go watch sum-buddy else play golf.

Was traffic reduced in both directions? I usually avoid 8. If so, you also had Twins Festival coming through.

So, if the City of Akron states that they DID notify ODOT of their desire to include Aug. 2-3 as a "do not obstruct traffic on Rt.8" must, good journalism would produce formal correspondnce to support that claim. So far, only vague statements have been included in your story. Will the ABJ do a follow-up story to produce such evidence? Have those thousands needlessly tied up on Rt. 8 this past weekend been truthfully dealt with?

Since when does ODOT take common sense into account?

If it wasn't the golf tournament, hall of fame or twins festival it would have been something else. Road work has to happen and there's never a good time. I bet traffic would have been backed up regardless of what was going on. People complain when they don't fix the roads and then get real vocal when it holds them up. You want good roads learn to live with the delays that come with fixing them

I doubt it, so it would be hard to say another weekend would be similar.

I garantee you people will still complain about slow traffic.

People complain about the roads being in dis-repair and complain about roads being repaired. You can't have it both ways. The traffic has to go somewhere during the lane repaving, and that is long open lanes which takes time especially because you have the knuckelheads who drive to the merge and force their way into the open lane which causes even more time wasted and lots of anger road rage. Check your ODOT website for road repairs before you leave on your trip and plan for extra time or detour yourself around them.

ABJ is a problem
|
Why didn't the ABJ print any of the press release information ODOT sends out well in advance of any lane restrictions? Would it have not been as good a story as Dyer's piece of literary art pointing the finger at others. I sat in the hour long traffic jam upset that as a local resident I didn't know to avoid SR8 south. That vital piece of information in the Saturday morning newspaper would have helped. How about the ABJ doing a better job of informing people?
