Like most all of N Alabama is without power and phones. Cell service is spotty at best. try not to worry too much, folks here look out for their neighbors, especially the elderly or otherwise disabled. I'm sure someone is looking out for them.
Thank you SOOOO much for the info, I'm on pins & needles, but your reply makes me feel better.

Call the Dekalb County Sheriff's dept. That road from Scottsboro going up the mountain might not be cleared, it is very narrow that goes right into Rainsville. My aunts cell phone died, she has to charge it in her car, I'll be calling her in the morning and I can find out, if you don't call the Dekalb County or Jackson County Sherriff's dept for more info. I have hundreds of relatives that live in that area we still can't reach many.

Thank you very much for the reply. I will try the Sheriff's Dept. again. I spoke with the Rainsville PD my mother's road is open but they were not sure of roads beyond their area. Everyone is extremely busy. I will check Topix in the morning before leaving.

I have cousins in Alabama that last night I tried to reach via Facebook. I have not heard back from them. Today I learned that there were widespread power outages and they probably haven't even seen my messages. I should probably phone them instead.

TVA officials said Thursday afternoon that the damage was worse than at first anticipated. They would not give an estimation as to when power would be restored.

They will update this online newspaper it is for the Scottsboro, Sandmountain area.

Here is another one to keep checking for Cullman , Marhsall , Bibb and more. Most of these are small online newspapers, you can find info for the smaller towns.
