Excellent article

Some points worth mentioning.

"The territory's problems are compounded by the lack of a general land-use plan. Rodriguez said that means hundreds of homes and businesses are built in flood-prone areas because projects are approved with little scrutiny".

"It's an accumulation of errors that we're paying for with the problems we're seeing now," he said.

TP: Corruption is rampant. Just ask those people in Lares who have bought homes in that new urbanizacion who have cracks in their foundation because the house was built on top of an underground river.

"We're building and building and building, and no one's analyzing the impact of that construction," he said.

TP: Yes, and now it will come to roost. There is a serious lack of oversight in PR ,in regards, to appropriate land use. It is not Hawaii where nature is respected and zoning laws are seriously enforced.

"We live on a tropical island in the Caribbean, and rain is something you can bet on," he said.

TP: Ya think?. Our EPA secretary Carl Soderburgh said a couple of years back that PR continually builds like it's a continent.

PR is one of the islands with the most rivers in the region.

Yes. That can be a blessing...But, that can also be problematic. Natures laws have to respected.

It's almost as if they build for the sake of building. No planning, no thinking along the lines of "is this viable?" or "do we really need this?".

In Rincon there is a huge shopping center built about 5 years ago that is entirely empty. Not one tenant. There is a condo development built right on the beach around the same time that is half empty.

Such a beautiful island. It's a shame.

The same with Boqueron and Playa Santa, as well.

On Playa Santa they built this huge monstrosity. And it's not even all filled. That was a very pretty beach, at one time. Unspoiled.

What's the point of a huge shopping center that is entirely empty? What kind of image does that send?

Im sorry you can't see my point ... it has nothing do with being an "ugly American" imposing my mainland beliefs and values.

But, wait....Jorge continually insists that we are all American.

Isn't he the one who insists that PR be as American as apple pie?.

But, then he sings the independista tune ,at a dime, when it suits his argument.

Doesn't he continually crow that his father served in the U.S armed services?.

The book should be entitled

The poster who calls himself "Jorge": A retrospective look at his many faces and personalities.

I am here because I want to be, I must be satisfied..........but then I have only met a few ignorant people since I have been here. friends of yours ? in another post you seemed to want us gringos to become vocal on the island, immerse ourselves into the culture etc etc etc and now you want to hear nothing from us ? ask us to leave ? have yo been checked for bi-polar tendencies ? Maybe you just want us to spout some "imperialistic rants" to use as ammo ? whatever the reasons for your behavior it seems you are no better that a redneck with a white robe, you know, those that you say you despise. I hope one day you sober up or heal those obvious deep emotional issues/scars, someone with that much hate can't be healthy emotionally and physically
