Well to qualify for disaster assistance you have to have a fifty percent loss on your total acres. If you have catasrophic insurance you have to have a total farm loss.We can not afford to buy up insurance because you can't afford it,it is to high.So just how do you figure the Gov't is gonna help us,when they are the very ones that put these insurance rules in effect.I'm glad you people know everything, and take light in seeing us go out of business. There ain't any bailouts coming,so go ahead and mock us,cause when your bellies are rumbling, you might realize what you said. Also did you know that we are the only business in the world that can't pass our expenses on to the customer like all other retail business's do,therefore we are responsible for the whole cost of growing the crop. For instance, just to break it down for you.It takes fourteen ounces of lint cotton to make an average size mans pair of blue jeans,we get $0.52 cents a pound for cotton, and you pay $50.00 for that same pair of jeans,so who is making the money? That's not even a pound of cotton. And guess who sets our (the farmers) prices? You guessed it, the GOVERNMENT!!!!So their really helping us aren't they?

How come every time a farmer goes busted .... there are several other farmers flocking around like buzzards to grab up their land?

If "all" farmers are losing money ... why would anyone want the land?

And finally, did the "GOVERNMENT" force you to be a farmer .... or did you choose to farm?

It went from record breaking bumper crops to this.Disaster money will help some but I believe the farmer would have rather had his crop. It's bad for everyone in the long run not just the farmer. We need our farmers people that's a no brainer.

not hardly.

Insurance won't even cover the investment in the crop.

Making dumb posts confuses the issue guest.

'Disaster money' is never money ... it is the promise of special consideration for a limited amount of loan funding.

So President declares a county a disaster area. Now the farmers can borrow money. Please, someone tell them that it doesn't help and it just creates an opportunity for dorke (like guest) to make fun of farmers.

Unless things have changed if the county is declared a disaster then yes the farmers will get disater money. If other counties are claiming losses (and they are) then yes they will get money!I have been on the recieving end of that and am hoping to be this year. It's helps but no it's not enough. These farmers were looking at record breaking corn and bean crops this year.It all washed away.I hate it for them. It's truely a disaster.

Well for one thing all farmers aren't going broke. But they are the ones that don't have as much overhead as most of us do.Their equipment is paid for,and we are making equipment payments. They own most of their land that they farm, where as we rent. When one farmer goes busted, these bigger farmers usually get the land. And yes things have changed with this new farm bill.Your disaster assistance will come in the form of low interest loans to pay off this years bills, thus leaving us still owing money. And no the government did not force me to farm, but things were different when I started, the cost to raise a crop was cheaper, and you could make money, but now since the government has taken control and worries about what other countries are doing instead of whats going on with their own people it's pretty sad.I thought we were supposed to take care of our own.But thats ok go ahead and poke your fun,but people don't realize the downward effect that losing farms also has on the well being of the many many businesse's that the farmer uses for support. How many businesse's do you think will be impacted from losing the farmers?GAS STATIONS,PARTS STORES,CLOTHING STORES,CHEMICAL BUSINESSE'S,WAL-MART,HARDWARE STORES,FERTILIZE DEALERS,AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.And my final question to you is,did the GOVERNMENT force you to be an ASSHOLE,or does that just come naturally to you? I sincerely hope you have a prosperous year and a good day,you seem to need it.

Having grown up in a grain elevator (my parents owned one) I know how important the farms in this country are. I've watched this year's cotton crops lay in the drenching rain when it should have been in bails and headed for the gin. My heart goes out to you guys. You really are at the bottom of the food chain as far as where the money is made. I appreciate your hard work and efforts. If not for you, I wouldn't enjoy the necessities of life such as food and clothing.

Like everyone else that works in this country does not provide something?

Thank you Mr. Steel Worker for giving us steel to build bridges and buildings. Thank you Mr. Policeman for keeping us safe. Thank you Mr. Fireman for standing on ready to put out a fire. Thank you Ms. Check-Out Lady for checking my groceries. Thank you Mr. Pilot for flying the plane. Thank you Mr. Garbage Truck Driver and Workers for picking up my trash. Do you see how far this list can go ????????

The spill of "If not for you, I wouldn't enjoy the necessities of life such as food and clothing" is lame and old!

Just like when a factory worker quits or is fired .... they are replaced. Same for farmers. When one quits, there are plenty standing in line to take over the land the last one farmed.

Why must you take my post and make hateful remarks? This thread isn't about the steel workers or factory workers etc. It's about farming and farmers. Some people get their underwear in a wad over the least little thing. Lighten up and think before you post. If you want to start a thread about other workers, I'll be glad to acknowledge them and thank them. This world would be a nicer place if people learned how to be nice and appreciate each other.

Just as I said in a prior post, yes I thank and respect all other workers in their respective jobs, but how many will still have jobs if some lose theirs,it's all a vicious cycle.People that get on here and show their ass don't understand the true facts,s I don't get offended by ignorance, they can't help it.Arkansas is the third largest agricultural state in the United States. So that tells me that agriculture is the largest industry in the state, and Mississipp County is the largest agricultural county in the state. It all boils down to if you don't know ,ask,i you don't understand, question it,if you don't care about it,then shut up.We don't care about your negative comments, because we are proud of what we do,and at least we respect our fellow farmers, even if you don't like,or respect us.We just chalk it up to ignorance.

So I guess asshole, you are the only one that pays taxes, like we don't.I would be willing to bet that we pay more taxes than the average American public does.My personal property tax alone is over $5000.00 per year, and that doesn't include all the other taxes that I pay.So don't get on here and say that your tax money is the one bailing us out,it's our own money also. But as I said on a previous post,it's ignorant peope like you that won't or don't care about facts, again i'm just chalking this one up to ignorance. You have a nice Thanksgiving, and think about where that food you are partaking of actually came from.(THE FARMER).Now you know.
