Armed robberies increase dramatically in Oak Park

To slow down the ever-increasing number of armed robberies in Oak Park this year, police are hoping falling temperatures will help chill the crime wave.

I'm surprised the liberal residents of Oak Park aren't offering to take these criminals into their own homes. "Those poor people, who have to bring guns and knives into our loverly village because the ecomony is bad." Oak Park is the perfect place for these thugs because the residents are bleeding hearts. They invited this problem years ago with the extension of the Green Line, and allowing kids who live in Austin to get "legal" addresses so they can attend OPRF.

We need to prosecute these clowns with a iron FIST.... Get a job and work like everyone else, or face many years in jail for stealing from honest people... The legal system needs to stop playing games with our lives

Many Oak Park residents are in denial. Neighborhoods change, and Oak Park is not changing for the better. The West Side is expanding ... to the west.

Maybe if these guys carried firearms the crime would go down. if the thugs were being shot down in the very streets they were robbing from for all to see then i am sure crime would go elsewhere.

"The city [of Chicago], they've had an increase in crime also."

BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!
And Chicago forbids law abiding citizens to own a handgun also, and the People's Republic is waiting for Chicago to fight their fight on that one too.
Like Chicago, OP needs more cops, not more artistic enhancements. It needs citizens who are willing to fight rather than turn the other cheek in deference to being politically correct.

You are in denial if you think Oak Park is still dealing with the white flight that happened back in the 60's and 70's. Check out home prices and home appreciation for Oak Park in the past 10 days. Pretty amazing... your panic peddling statements are not based in reality!

How can this happen in gun free Oak Park? Am I missing something? Is it possible that if a few of these clowns were blown away by firearm carrying citizens, the rest might think twice?

Its happening in Berwyn and Forest Park too. The problem is the apartment belt in Berwyn between Roosevelt and Cermak is loaded with Section 8 now, who, surprisingly, are robbing everybody in our towns. We need a large overhaul of this system, getting the clowns, cheats, and criminals off of the welfare system. We should not have to live with the scum of the earth. That is why you pay more for your home and in taxes, to not live with a bunch of lowlifes.

Is this post supposed to have some sort of point?

Why would you assume everyone in Oak Park is liberal? And what does being liberal have to do with getting robbed?

The extension of the Green Line? What? The Lake Street elevated has been there for over a hundred years. What are you talking about?

What does the student population of Oak Park River Forest High School have to do with a wave of robberies? This has nothing to do with OPRF.

Your simple-minded liberal vs. conservative mindset is tiresome and has no application here.

Great plan of attack. Good to know my tax dollars are going to such innovative, proactive thinking...hoping the weather reduces the crime. Are you serious? I honestly hope they are doing more and not reporting it. Robberies have been a problem forever in Oak Park. Drug use on the Westside is getting worse, resulting in more robberies.

I Say they legalized consealed carry handguns and give everyone free firearms training, i think we woul dsee the blood of criminals flowing in the streets very quickly.
Consider this: Felons cant own guns, something like 87% of these guys are felons so the argument "The criminals can buy more guns' doesnt really fly.

And this situation of "outsiders" committing crimes in Oak Park is a surprise? Duh. Outsiders as in thugs and banger wanna-be's. Could that be it?

The liberal mentality of this entire area plus 40 years of dependent social programs has led to this chaos.

It will spread. History repeats itself. Look at any neighborhood near Chicago that was previously a decent place to live and what it is now. And what changed? The people. Why are some people more capable of grasping social values, laws, education, and family and others are inclined to be into drugs, gangs, drop outs, teen-age pregnancies, etc? Got me. Its reality though.

And no amount of money, businesses, jobs, or policeman will stop the tidal wave.

Perhaps, but I think we also need to look at the laws we currently have that are filling up the jails we have. The US has the highest incarceration rate of any industrialized country.

Perhaps legalizing pot will open up some room in jail for violent offenders. That would also reduce the crime associated with pot, such as gangs protecting their turf for pot dealing. Prohibition does not work.
