And believe it or not, the Weather Channel is predicting up to 1.5 inches of ice accumulation. Ice accumulation of this magnitude will cause widespread damage to power lines, even those without overhead trees or tree branches. Area residents should be prepared to be without power possibly for as long as 5 to 10 days. With the predicted amount of ice, ALL residential areas WILL lose electrical power! Ice accumulations of this magnitude will easily snap power lines and most likely even break/topple wooden utility poles via the ice's own weight, even without falling trees/tree branches, and possibly even buckle steel electricity pylons as well.

If you plan on running a generator when you lose power, make sure it is located outdoors and is properly ventilated. Also, make sure to keep electric space heaters at least 3 feet away from fabrics, carpets, and generally anything flammable.
