Smoke lingers from wildfires in Everglades, but no homes in danger

Broward's 911 center was inundated with non-emergency calls Saturday from residents who awoke to find the area blanketed with smoke, produced by brush fires in west Miami-Dade County, authorities said.

This is such a no story. Been in Pompano for 20 + years and you know, we had fires then and we have them now in the Glades. Sorry newspaper story teller this isn't CA and their fires. I guess these newspaper people are warming up their fear mongering tactics before the hurricane season starts.

Indeed your right, this is not CA. Infact, had it been CA, where the real Fighter Fighters are, this "lil" bk woods fire would have been contained, two wks ago. Our "Firefighters" could learn a few things from those men and women on the West Coast. This should have been a "non issue".

How stupid and under informed are S Floridians?? I mean they are calling the 911 center because there is smoke in the air??!!! I mean with ALL the Tv,blackberry,internet,phone info around us...Dont you think they would look to see that there are Everglades fires in the area. I grew up in N Dade 25 years, had fires every year..Yet no one called 911
