Editor's view: Changes abound as newspapers continue to evolve

Sometimes we all wish things could stay the way they've always been. Journalists like me, born with ink flowing in our veins and the tune of a printing press humming in our ears, wish we could continue to rest ...

Overall, I think the PO does a fantastic job at providing local news. Keep up the good work.

Regardless of your intent ,the new on line format is not as good as the original. The new format and multi day listings for the same story is not an improvement. Navigated the old site was much easier, now it seems totally unorganized. Some uninteresting stories are there all week making it appear you are too lazy to update your materials. I guess if you leave the story there long enough, someone will click on it. Just because you changed something, for the sake of change, doesn't make it better.

The daily poll is extremely lame and worthless.
Today you have --Are you planning to get out of town for Memorial Day weekend?
What tomorrow?--What color is your dish towel?

How about some hard hitting questions such as - Do you believe World Trade Center Building 7 that was not hit by an airplane, collapsed in its own footprint with out the help of pre-place demolition explosives, or do you believe that electronic, no paper trail elections are really honest?

Or, does the bribes of American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) control US politicians and American foreign policy?

There are many real issues that are better polled than so far asked.

How about this? If you were fooled by the Bush administrations lies to attack Iraq, will you be fooled by their lies to attack Iran?

I'm glad to have access to PO online, but I miss the way it was laid out before. The dates, the ability to go back to a different date to recheck something, this site now just seems all lumped together.

2008... the year of change. Change is not always a good thng, as we'll soon find out with Barack Hussein Obama. Bring back the old site PO. I rarely come back here anymore, just too scrambled for my liking. Herald-mail is more organized. C-ya PO!

I think the new format is so much harder to read, especially that smaller blue type. It is more confusing to try and find articles in the new format.

NOW they closed the Gazette online because the P.O. is online and that really ticks me off! I used that as my home page and enjoyed reading it every day and now it's gone! I know other people liked the Gazette page too.

I find this all very frustrating and agree that change for the sake of a change doesn't make it better it's just another thing I have to tolerate but don't like and can't do a D*** thing about it!

I'd like to know if newspaper sales have increased on the past 10 years, or if like most other liberal rags, subscription has fallen through the floor.

Content, Content, Content!
All the changes you speak about Bennett are only window dressing. The real problem at the P.O. is the quality of the reporting, bias, and quality of the printed version.
I think the best thing for the P.O. would be a regime change. It's time for you to step down Bennett. Hand the reigns over to a professional who is committed to a fair and balanced factual approach to the news.
Step aside Bennett.

The new on line format is cluttered, confusing and too difficult to navigate. Any more changes in mind? Don't do us any more favors, it wasn't broke.

The print PO is not going to make it longer term. No idea if the on line version will survive, but I am skeptical. The few national / international articles you choose to print are history by the time you get to them in print. The local news is done with very little research / depth. Reading the blogs tells me that most of the PO readers aren't demanding much. As one example, we are in the financial dust-up of a lifetime and there is virtually no financial news. Prayers for those who use only the PO as a source of information.

Becky - ignore those posting aboput bias, etc.

They are like blaming the TV for a blurred picture when they just need new glasses.

jtb wants to write a column where we choose individuals from the area and he decides whether they are Christians and Eric won't be happy until you create a neocon section reporting progress on how much further down the road to financial disaster the neocons have sent this country today.
